Rough Running

Hello Forums,

I want to start off by letting you all know whats going on. I have a 1989 V6 3.0 (the smaller one). 2 days ago out of nowhere it started running extremely rough. I do not know whats wrong with it and neither does the dealer or an autoshop that I took it too. I tried the ECU coding, So did the Auto repair shop, but the dealer would have charged me. Does anyone know what it could be and/or have any info on how I could troubleshoot the ECU myself, steps or whatever, and how to decode it. I also found this post and not sure if it could have anything to do with it, http://autorepair.about.com/library/a/1h/bl739h.htm.

Thank you

With car running unplug a spark plug wire one by one. If see change like running rougher than before put it back on right a way. If get one or more that DO NOT change when car running in plug. Then ohm test the injectors. Use the search bar to how to get to injectors and test.

The thing is I have replaced the sparkplugs and the wires already. The day after it happened.

There is another current thread that has a link to ecu code reader. I forget the exact name of the thread, but if you search within the last day or two you'll find it.

any cylinder firing fine will show a drop in idle when you pull the plug wire
this way you will see which cylinders are not firing

More symptoms would help us help you. Does it have delayed start (takes couple times to start), back fires, runs rough at idle, ect .. I would check fuel pressure, test fuel pump/FPR, test for spark, change fuel filter and check for vacuum/vacuum lines, ect ..
