This is what Nissan calls the metal plate that attaches to the spindle without any screws holding it on. Hit a bump today and the plate came loose from the spindle. Now it is rubbing the back of my rotor. I tried to get it back on the spindle but I had no luck. My car screeched all the way home. I was able to climb underneath the car to look at the destruction to my rotor. Not too bad right now. My question is can I force this thing off over the hub? after taking the pads, caliper and other stuff off. I believe I have damaged it too bad for it to fit back correctly on the spindle. Has anyone else had this problem before?
What are my options? Cut it off? I know it serves a purpose though.

The Japanese like to write things backwards. If they called it what it is, the part would be labeled as "SHIELD-DUST".

 

Cut it off and go about your day unless you want symmetry.

 

Thanks for the tips. I used JB weld. I had enough room to put some all the way around it with a Q-Tip. No more scrapping the back of my rotor.
