spark plug/wire questions

Hey guys. I'm in the process of doing my own tune up. I was wondering what some good spark plugs were for my 93 se (auto). Let me know if you guys know of any specials online on some good brands. And for wires, will any wires do or will i need to get some special wires or something. Thanks again

Get BOSCH Platinum +4 plugs. I noticed improved performance from them I put them in over 10k miles ago. Took one out a few days ago for inspection. Looked great. If your engine runs well ( not burning oil or running rich/lean) these plugs will probably outlast your ride! Well worht the extra few bucks!

Wait, don't you have a VE? There're no traditional spark plug wires for our car, only the OEM wires going from the 6 ignition coils to the crank sensor (I think). AFAIK, no one makes any performance wires like there is for regular ignition systems. One guy says he dressed them up in red tape, which might not be so crazy since they're all wrapped in tape or something anyway.

They might be expensive so I would just test them first before deciding to replace them.

The red tape would be me. To be changed to yellow this spring. Just put it out over all the black stuff.

regular Bosch or NGK plug wires and NGK plugs for stock.....but if you step up the ignition system go for some heavy duty Magnecore 8mm wires!

Just get the stock plugs from your dealer.

Most people AFAIK, just change the plugs with a tuneup. Like I said, check the wires for damage and resistance with an ohmmeter (multimeter) and just replace it if you have to. This should be true for regular plug wires too. Unless they're really old I think plug wires are a "replace as needed" item.

You can check the ignition coils instead of the wires. I just did this last weekend in anticipation of my inspection (don't want to fail emissions, and I was bored). My Chiltons told me that the resistance across them should be about 0.8 Ohms, and mine were all 1.0 or 1.1 Ohms, which seems good to me since the multimeter I used wasn't good down to milliohms. Anything really high and you should probably replace the coil, though they are kinda pricy ($60 or so each). Also, maybe replace the PCV valve too if it hasn't been done lately.
