Car shaking.
Car shaking.
Well i been trying to diagnose my cars shaking at idle problem for the last couple days. it shakes in park, alot more in gear but not really while driving. I did the pull each wire while the car is on and the #4 cylinder has no change when i remove the wire. So i changed the plugs, the wire(ngk wires), the fuel filter and the ignition rotor, pcv valve is farely new and looks clean still, i recently changed the o2 sensor as well a couple months back. My car still shakes after all that! No better no worse.
Next thing i did was check the resistance of each injector especially that #4 injector. These are the numbers i pulled. #1 injector 12.5, #2 injector 15.5, #3 injector 19, #4 injector 15.8, #5 injector 13 and #6 injector 15.2. The only one that looks farely different is the #3. Do those numbers look right? If so what else can be causing this, any other test i can do? I dont think i can change that injector myself and i hate to pay a arm and leg for a shop to do it..

Specs should be between 10 and 14 ohms. 3 and 4 are a bit high, and you should consider replacement.
I would also advise checking the plug and socket for the #4 injector for corrosion. More than a few have gone bum due to corrosion.

Best way to test is to seem them for yourself. Lift the injectors + rail from the manifold. While the injectors, distributor and battery are still connected, pull the distributor, put the ignition on the ON position and turn the distributor gear. You should see the injectors firing as you turn the gear.
I cleaned the connections and got a little different numbers on a couple injectors. #1 went from 12.5 to 12. #3 still 19. #4 went from 15.8 to 14.7. #5 went from 13 to 12.5. and #6 stayed the same at 15. Also cleaned the maf sensor. Havent started the car yet though, waiting for some stuff to dry. Ill post back with results.
Weirdest thing just happened. So im getting ready to take my car to autozone. I have it running while i look for a song..Then all of a sudden the shaking just stops and its running smooth now..Weird. I did put fuel injector cleaner in it though. maybe they were just dirty?
Nevermind, it started shaking again, lol. It does it off and on now, it will shake and then stop and then shake. I can even kinda feel it while im driving. Anyways im going to autozone. See if they can hook it up to the computer.

Yeah they are but im glad parts are not very expensive on these cars like some newer cars. I think the most expensive part on this car was like $150 for me. Other than that its 10-$20 here and there. Love these cars though they run forever! Hopefully when i get these injectors replaced it'll be running like a champ and better gas mileage to. BTW, anything i should consider replacing while im changing the injectors?(besides gaskets). Im gonna change out a few hoses and the fuel lines that go through the fuel rail, they leak in the winter when its really cold! Anything else?
Well i got my car running good without changing the injectors. It seems that my spark plugs were not gapped correctly..I had someone gap them and now the car is running smooth. Was a dumb mistake on my part but for some reason i thought i seen that ngk plugs come pre gapped, but after looking again i guess they don't.lol.

Well im stuck again, so my car has been driving good since my last post but today i was on my way somewhere, i was waiting at a stop sign and out of nowhere my car turns off...At this point im hoping im not stranded, i turn the key and it starts right back up, no problems. I immediately turn around but as im accelerating i get some hesitation. As i said my car has been driving good but the idle has been acting up, it will idle high sometimes around 1500, sometimes it will idle perfect and sometimes around 700. Im thinking the IACV? Im wondering what part exactly is the iacv? I know the location but is it just the circle part that the 3 philips head screws hold on there or is it that whole piece including the part with the 4 allen head bolts?
Its the whole piece. Find the vac hose going to it and spray some Deep Creep in there.(aerosol Seafoam)
If you don't feel comfortable with that then take it off and clean it with some carburetor cleaner. From there reassemble.

Ok so i discovered something while replacing that iacv. If i barely touch the wire harness going to the front injectors that the car will start shaking really bad and almost turn off. It seems as if the wires are not getting a good connection. So im thinking for my next task tomorrow or sunday. I will take off the wire harnesses for all the injectors, resolder them in there, tape em up real good or heat shrink. Hopefully that will do the trick!
So this is what im dealing with, i took off all the tape and there is this part where all the wires are crimped together with the one wire. The connection doesn't look stable and it looks corroded so im going to cut it and resolder it and if i can find some heatshrink and tape it back up.

Also this is what the top of the injectors looks like. What can i spray to clean it up in there. I previously tried to scrape some of the green corrosion off but it still looks pretty dirty.

Read description to. i still havent changed the injectors so im not sure if that would cause this but i am going to have them tested probably tomorrow and if they are for sure bad. I will order them for sure monday!
