Brand New Maxima User!

Hey guys!
I was just checking out maximas online and saw this and said hey, why not try it out?
I was actually looking for some help with the looks of my car.
I want to get some new rims and not sure if i need 16s or what looks best?
May also want ideas to mod it further perhaps... but I really like the clean look of it.
The windows are tinted, sound systems good, interior is leather, and its the SE edition so its 5speed!

I can post some pics of my car too (hopefully) and people can throw some suggestions!

Thanks and hope to hear from everyone soon!

What's up? Welcome to the site! This is a g-r-e-a-t place to get information about maintenance and mods for your car. Probably better than the Nissan stealership, itself!

A quick tip, since you're a new user - The searchbar up top is the #1 fastest way to get information. An old site with 125k members means that your question's probably been asked and answered, already. Some people here get madder than a midget with a yo-yo when they see questions getting reposted

Haha wow and the replies are mighty quick too!
Sounds good, I will begin my adventures to find out some things now.
And thanks Ryan! I got it for dirt cheap and its only got 235k kms so I think I got a steal
Unfortunately theres some rust on the middle back fender at the corner of the rear wheels so thats the only downside... but other than that its imacculate.

There are some 18s, looks good but not sure of the red. What do people think?

Sounds good to me! thanks guys I might just spray bomb the rims black...

Youd be surprised at the interior and all the buttons, more mint than the outside

If you spray the rims a color, use the "card trick" to make sure you don't get paint on the tires, which makes it look tacky and botched.

Tuck either 3x5 index cards or cards from an old deck of playing cards between the rim and the tire. Normally masking tape is used, but the tires' natural oil makes tape difficult to stick to them.

clean, nice car!

try plastiDip on the wheels if you want to go to black, you can later peel it off if you want to go back to the original look

Very clean! Glad to see a new VE 5 speed member around here.

Never been a fan of black wheels in general (you just plain can't hardly see them, and at first glance it looks like all your hubcaps have been knocked off, etc) but to each his own!

Nice 3rd gen man! 17s or 18s are nice. Not a big fan of black rims but whatever you like go with with. X2 on lowering plus get some clear corners. Cheap plus you would be surprised how much cleaner they make your car look, especially black cars!

Thanks guys I grabbed me some MSR 190s in gunmetal... figured it would look good. 17s and I plan to lower it. Now the rust on bottom corner of the rear wheel middle fenders, not sure what to do with that. Its not really noticable but still

Clear corners, will need to look at where to get those and what they look like but thanks for the suggestions and greetings everyone!

Hello and welcome! I had some clear corners, took them off and went back to the stock ones. The lens on the clear corners kept coming unglued. Not sure what I did with them.

So I got my rims... take a look at the pics attached.
The shop I went to to mount the new tires onto my rims said the rims wouldnt fit on the back so they had to take the wheel caps off, not the hubcaps though. I hope this doesnt cause any troubles?!

Tell me what you guys think!

Looks nice, what size tire? Are you running spacers in the rear?

Thanks man, theyre 225/50s in the rear and 245/45s in the front.
No i didnt run spacers, which is why they had to take the cap off the rear axles

Wow, I think I need to switch my wheels. Everyone is running a pretty wide tire. I am running 215/50 17 and rub like crazy. Those are wrapped around 2000 SE wheels. I have to run spacer in the back. Like shiloh said, post pics of engine.

Everything with the back wheels depends on the wheel width and offset.

If you have 8 inch wide wheels, you will need probably around a +32 offset.

With 7 inch wide wheels, you need probably +38.

I had a set of 17x7, but they were +42 and with 225/45/17s they were sooo close to rubbing the struts I couldn't believe it. I went to an alignment shop and the guy gave me a set of generic 5mm spacers for the rear. It looked a lot better, was not rubbing on anything and the only bad thing was I didn't paint the spacers, so you could see a bit of silver metal through the wheels.

Here is a pic with those wheels and spacers in the rear:

Yeah... I should have probably run some spacers and the front tires seem to rub when i turn fully. May have to roll the fenders but its very minimal so I might just ignore it.

PS. Does anyone know what the rims in my first picture are? I am trying to post them but I cant find them anywhere. It looks similar to the 98-99 Maximas or the 04 sentras but I am not sure....

245s are about the widest you want to run in the front with the correct offset.

Really, you should have 235/ 45/17s -- that is the closest size to stock so your speedo is right. 215/50/17 is also very close.

If you run a 3 or 5mm spacer in the rear you should then have no clearance issues. My 225/50's used to rub on the rear strut (chewing up the aspect ratio portion of the tires & a burning rubber smell). I bought some spacers, no rub. Really depends on the tire too. Cap wise, not sure why they had to remove...seems a little farfetched.
