Deployed Marine needing help

Hey guys, I need some big help here. I am currently unable to examine my car due to my being deployed with the US Marines in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. My wife told me that as soon as I left, the car started acting stupid, leaking from the radiator, black smoke, and overheating.
I'll try to explain it as best I could as I understand her relaying it to me:
A bit of background: 93 GXE Auto; close to 220k. Prior to thanksgiving, I took the car to the local Nissan dealer for a tune-up, which includes checking of all hoses and belts. Went home for the holiday, and the next day after, the top radiator hose sprung a leak. Nowhere to get a new one at this time, except aftermarket (Autozone I think). New hose on, everthing OK. Couple of weeks later started smelling something that smelled like burned rubber, when the heat was on, and when opening the hood, smell got stronger and the quickly dissipated. Could find nothing.
Now that I'm gone she said the car overheated, it looks like it's leaking from somewhere in the middle, and there was a plume of smoke coming from under the hood. Thankfully, she got the car home, and parked it in the garage.
What do you guys think is the most likely culprit? I can't check it, and tell more, sorry, but you understand my situation. What can she do diagnostic wise that won't break the bank to hard? She got a couple of quotes on radiator work for $300.00 (her father suggested radiator went bad, but he can't get to it either). I need advice. Thanks.

Probably wrong but sounds little like a bad heater hose

At that mileage it could be any one of the smaller coolant lines that run throughout the manifold area. That may explain the smoke coming from the 'middle', and a leak should leave a coolant coloured stain somewhere.

Really hard to diagnose without seeing it.

as everyone else said.. possibly the hose you bought was a POS and/or wasn't installed properly..

either that, or the air wasn't purged from the system, and the whole thing never really got itself back to 100% and it barfed on you.

almost impossible to tell without seeing it. could be hundreds of things.

Sorry, no words of advice on the car. Good luck as your mission continues in Afghaninstan. As a former Marine, I know some of the challenges you are facing right now.
