Wrong injectors installed?
Wrong injectors installed?
So yesterday I pulled off my intake to replace my injectors and to my surprise, 2 of them have been replaced at one time before. #1 and #5 were "red tops"(python brand) and #3 was the factory. I know these red tops "SE style" injectors flow more etc, which caused me to wonder if they attibuted to my lower than normal fuel ecomony and cat going out from running to rich...? 1993 Maxima VG30E

Sometimes the injectors fail and stay stuck open, which is what a couple of mine were doing - just dumping buttloads of fuel into the cylinder. I had two test good and four test bad, two of which were stuck open, two weren't firing off at all. I was getting HORRID fuel economy.
How do you test to see if they're stuck open? I have resistance tested mine to see if they're within spec, but i'm not sure how to test to see if they're stuck open. My max is running realllllly rich and I am suspecting either a bad o-ring on one of the injectors I haven't replaced, or one is stuck open.
Don't know if there's an actual test (I'm sure there is) but it was confirmed for me when I pulled the heads and smelled and saw the fuel in the cylinders, plus the reek of fuel in the exhaust. It was flooding pretty good. Upside is the intake ports on those cylinders were pretty clean from all the gas LOL
So I finished the install and it runs great, It failed smog afterwards since the cat was bad(from the bad injectors) and the O2 sensor was not far behind. I changed the sensor yesterday so Im hoping it will help my gas mileage....the cat will be installed most likely this weekend and Ill be re-smoging it as well. the tutorials posted by some of you really helped and it took me a day to do it even with all the cleaning.
