This place is dead in the water, just like your ECU, and a certain someone had to lock a thread that was on it's way to epic status?

is correct.

If you have a stock ECU it's not difficult or expensive to find a replacement. Keep a spare around if it makes you feel better, but replacing the heater core as "preventive maintenance" just isn't practical. If you happen to have a JWT or Nistune ECU you might want to find a way to protect it incase of a heater core leak. I personally took the covers off mine and reassembled them with liquid gasket maker and used it to fill in all holes along the sides. I also placed a piece of metal a little larger than the ECU itself right above it to deflect any water raining down (like a metal umbrella). Since I've never had a heater core leak I can't be certain these methods will work, but considering the cost and turn around time for these ECUs I felt I had to do something

whats the issue with the heater core? takes 5 minutes if that to replace it, you all act like you have to remove the whole dash or something to replace it

I have an 03 6mt since day one. runs healthy, no issues, no mods either but has 160k miles. i just do typical maintenance and i know everything is always clean as far as fluids, plugs, belts, etc.

should i be worried or have an ecu as spare just in case.

No more whining about how hard it is to get to the heater core. Ya'll have it easy.

It's resized to prevent spending the next week answering questions about what is what. Your "blurry" impression comes from the amount of wires and parts that are not supposed to be there, it looks the same regardless of the image size. The picture is entirely in focus.

SE? That's the VE motor which makes the car pretty quick. I had a VG and those are strong iron motors for boost. But I like my VQ better. Poor mans ls.
