Both the Ca and the sr are good engines to work with, it's just that an sr would be easier for when parts break, but what is this thread still up here for, don't these things ever die? I'm no longer going to do the sr swap on my car though. i was set to do it, but 2 things stopped me, the biggest being the tranny, the FWD tranny does not do well well u reach into the horsepower levels that i'm shooting for which is around 375-400, and after spend an @#$% load of cash to get the engine in and working i'm not going to change the tranny every 8 months, that's just stupid. However... the srswap is not completely dead.... we've got a 4wd auto tranny (if u know jap cars u know the one, and it AIN"T a skyline tranny ) here that appears to be capable of handling the power and we're working on getting that adapted to FWD, which is a hellacious task , so far no one's been able to adapt it all the way to fwd, so we'll see...the swap may be done on the alternate MAx if we can do the tranny so we'll see....

doesnt make sense, why waste the time and money to put a sr in a maxima.. just buy a 240 and put a sr in that.. save you time money and headaches, but if you must.. the sentra fwd tranny will work with the sr20det engine.. if your gonna put that engine in the max.. i still say it wont have enought torque to pull such a heavy car.
My thoughts exactly. Sport Compact Car just did a writeup on that very thing. For $3000, they bought a beater, a Japanese front clip, and made the swap. Even an old 240sx would kick a Maxima's teeth in on the twisties. (Except maybe Matt's Car). And then are fun things like bigger turbos...

the reason for doing so would would be originality creativity, such great things to have

torque wouldnt be an issue, it has enough.

I forget was either of those replies to me? Yeah old 240 would beat me in the twisties, but that's fine cause i'm taking my time with the 3 cute women who are riding in comfort and style with me

And the sr swap is for uniquness and a good way to show what my friends shop is capable of...lol, if/when we get it done...

I have to agree with Nismo87se. What's all this talk about 4cyl's??? You don't want to DOWNGRADE! j/k Seriously though. There is always the rev-happy Rb20det. At least its an i-6 (only 2.0L though) but I remember reading before about how you can swap out the heads for Rb25 heads and magically make it 3.0L (don't quote me on that but its something along those lines to make an "Rb30et"). There are TONS of options. Yes there is always being different and original. Though, I'd examine my options first. The Rb20det has been done before (in Japan) supposedly. You'd be better off to just build up the stock VG/VE, depending on what you have. I mean, even the stock VG does have a whole lot of potential with just going all engine. To each his own. On behalf of every Maxima owner, if any of you ever did swap to a 4cyl FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T PUT A RICE MUFFLER ON IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The day I hear a Maxima as riced out as a couple 240sx's w/ sr20's, that I've heard, is going to be the saddest day of my life.

Hey, I just said its been done before. I didn't say I was going to do it! The Rb20 series engines are quite small for a 6cyl.

Anyone that swaps a SR20DET into a maxima I will personally kick them in the nuts . Seriously that engine require more fabrication $$ and is more expensive to mod. You don't even get more power over a VG-T setup . Basically its like WTF?

The Rb20de and det came in A31 Cefiro's, and are RWD. Though, I remember hearing before that someone came across a 3rd gen in Japan that had a Rb20det swapped in. Who knows how the guy pulled it off but anything is possible.

I like my 3liter because I can hold up 2liter bottles and ask rice drivers why theyre car has less displacement than my 2liter bottle.
also I like the way 6 and definity 8cyl. sound in the higher rpm ranges. not to mention the power, i love my power and im gonna buy a 5speed so that I can add more
