15" wheels wrapped with my stock tires...wudya think?

I don't have much money and I just bought brand new tires (215 60 15). Someone give me some advice... should I spend $200 or less bucks and buy some used 15" rims that will fit on my stock tires? What size rim exactly should I get? Would these rims look funny? Any advice is appreciated.

If they were lighter, that would be the only thing that would improve my performance. Correct? My stock rims are pretty light right now, so it would be hard to get lighter ones for cheap. So, the only way to make my car handle better is to reduce my tire profile by getting larger rims? Right?

The biggest reason why I would do a mod to my car is to make it perform better. I kinda what it to look better, but I don't have the money right now. Thanks.

There is no shame whatsoever in using the 15 inch size. I am going to use the 17's I just got for normal driving and when I finish my suspension work, start autocrossing locally with the steel 15's with some decent tires.

No shame at all.

Do you have any pics?

I have seen what they look like and I'm interested in that. It's looks too cheap. It almost looks like I spent $20 on a mod. J/K Thanks for the idea.

If you're ever planning on upgrading to 16" (probably best balance of looks/performance) or 17" (best looks), then I personally wouldn't bother getting a set of 15" rims. I think the stock SE rims look very clean by themselves.

Besides, if you get a 15" rim style that looks good sitting there, but then when you mount it, it might look funny. I think one thing is if you get small rims with a lot of "dead" space in the center (like 5-spokes) it will only highlight the thickness of the tires.... Just ask DA-MAX about his BUS TIRES!!

I'd just wait it out and use the $200 to get a RSB (with money left over for pizza and beer)!

Yeah, thanks for bringing me to my senses. I have seen Da-max's car with the older rims. Those were 15's? They looked like 14's with 70 series tires. jk Da-max

Stock Nissan wheels are very well made, high quality wheels. Getting a different set of 15" wheels may get you better looks, but can create all kinds of other problems: wheels out of true, hard to balance, etc. If the clear coat is peeling, and looks crappy, just sand them and paint them silver.

Yeah, I agree they are very well made. I got a chance to lift up the rim without a tire on it and it felt VERY light. People up here have weighed them and got something like 16 lbs. That's pretty good.

No, my rims are in pretty good condition and they look fine. I just wanted to see what everybody thought about this crappy idea.

No, I have never thought of that. I kinda figured it would look just like if I painted them White. How is it done? I'm not too sure what powder coating is.

copied from www.powdercoatingspec.com:

Why Powder Coat?
- Powder Coating is economical
- Powder Coating is environmentally compliant
- Durability and excellence of finish

What is Powder Coating?

Powder coating is a dry finishing process, using finely ground particles of pigment and resin which are electrostatically charged and sprayed onto a part to be coated. The parts to be coated are electrostatically grounded so that the charged powder particles projected at them adhere to the parts and are held there until melted and fused into a smooth coating in the curing oven. The result is a uniform, durable, high quality finish that is also environmentally friendly.
Since its introduction in North America almost 40 years
ago, powder coating has become the fastest growing finishing
technology, currently representing over 10 percent of the total
industrial finishing market. More and more finishing engineers
for a countless array of products have switched from liquid
finishing to powder coating as a way to produce a high quality
and durable finish while maximizing production, cutting costs,
improving efficiency, and complying with increasingly stringent
environmental regulation.

and you can get stuff powdercoated in ANY color.

Am I correct in assuming that we can mount the five spoke 16" 240sx rims on our cars?
