Vehicle Speed Sensor CEL Code 14

Hello,

I recently started to have a problem with my speedometer needle not moving at all when accelerating, but it was intermittently doing it.

Yesterday I did my oil change like I regularly do and then I start my car, I noticed some vibration when Idling and then RPM needle seems a little higher than usual and it keeps dropping for moments (like the car want to stall) and when I accelerate my speedometer needle didn't move and I was like "oh this is acting up again" so I drove up a couple of miles and then CEL came up, I pulled over and check my code, it give me 14 which is VSS, did some research here but find very little info about it. I tried to start the car, and it start but stall after one second of being on, I tried one again car start ok but with high RMPs. Is this for the same VSS issue? or could be something else?

On the research I found this sensor is very close to the oil filter, (however I could locate where is it exactly) is there a chance that I could just disconnect it or maybe damage it if I accidentally hit it while removing oil filter? could anybody provide a picture of which one is the vehicle speed sensor, if replacement is needed is it easy to replace? what could be my worst case scenario?

Than you all for the input.

Here's the speed sensor, held by a bolt. There's plenty of room to remove it without damaging anything.

I had the same issue and it turned out to be that the plastic pinion in the speed sensor wore out so that it wouldn't always turn when the differential starts to move. That part is easy to replace and I was able to get a replacement at the dealer. You can also use an ohm meter to see if you can get a ready while rotating the pinion. Worst case scenario, you would have to replace the cluster or check the wiring for the speed sensor.

And in regards to the RPM issue, that may be separate.

Sorry, I have been busy all day. But that wire is for the oil pressure switch located on the block near the oil filter mount. The plastic connector that goes to the switch goes brittle and breaks and eventually the wire goes too, which is what you got. It shouldn't affect engine performance without it, but it won't tell you when the oil pressure is low.

But as mentioned on my last post, check the plastic pinion on the speed sensor or use a voltmeter to make sure it's working.
