Correct Injector Part Question - 1993 SOHC

Hello All,

In a previous thread I talked about an injector replacement I did over the weekend. When it got it all together and started the vehicle it ran really rough and back fired. I also mentioned the smell of gas..

I took the intake manifold off this morning and found gas in the intake chamber of the same chamber of the Injector that I replaced.

Below is a picture of the Injectors. The injector on the right is the original injector. The pink injector on the left is the replacement part.

The parts don't look alike at all.
Is the problem that injector?
Is the problem installer error? Did I install the injector incorrectly?

Any help is highly appreciated.

Thanks,
Trav...

The pink injector seems be the wrong one due to the filter screen to be lower than your original one. When you get OEM replacement injectors they will be pink and over time it will turn beige. But that pink injector seems to be wrong altogether.

They're the same and are interchangeable, they only modified the filter screen on the newer injectors.

Be sure the injector and o ring was seated properly. Generally if it's not seated properly it will flood causing your backfire and as GRNMAXDMON stated make sure you have the proper injector though im sure their may be some slight differeces with newer aftermarket replacements.

Can't say I agree since I haven't used an aftermarket brand injector. It's just that the filter screen sits lower than the OEM which "makes me think" fuel going through the rail opening of the injector filter screen isn't really going through since the new one sits lower possibly allowing fuel to leak and misfiring???

aftermarket injectors

I've replaced injectors on both my 90 GXE and 94 GXE for the SOHC motor several times. I've done it wrong, and I've done it right. The wrong way is to buy an aftermarket injector off of Ebay that is red. It is for the 300ZX or other higher flow system engine.
I've had good luck with injectors bought from O'Reilly's and Autozone. Yes, the filter screen is lower on the body, but it's ok.

Here's the link to the Autozone part: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...mString=search I"ve had good luck w/ the GP Sorenson injectors. If you don't trust them, then just go to Nissan and buy OEM. I don't recommend the rebuilt injectors you might find on-line, etc.

I've used at least 6 of these from AutoZone and they work. I've also used at least 4 or more from O'Reilly's.
The wrong way to put them in is to force them in using the retainer cap screw only. Bad, bad, bad. This will possibly result in an improperly seated O ring and will allow raw gas to run into the cylinder. If your engine coughs and runs really bad and has lots of raw gas coming out the tail pipe, you must do the job again to re-seat the offending injector. First, grease each O-ring with Vaseline. Then push each one in with your fingers making sure they go all the way into the fuel rail seat. Then rotate in the seat to make sure they are all the way in. Once each injector is on the rail, reinstall the rail.
Oh, if you don't release the fuel pressure and pull out an injector when it's still in the fuel rail ON THE ENGINE, a lot of raw gas will run in the cylinders and when you restart, the engine will run really bad and cough and sputter until it burns out the gas.

On these old cars it will be wise to replace all injectors as the OEM injectors WILL go bad after 100k+ miles. So might as well bite the bullet and replace them all at the same time. If you don't have the $$$'s to do all 6, check each injector with an ohm meter. Each injector should be around 13 ohms. If they are like around 25+, might as well replace it cuz it will go bad pretty soon.
