a little update

So finally got a rear spoiler all the servicing is done but it still misses slightly.Timing belt and other belts will be done at the end of the month and No the car is not driven daily. The suspension is shot. So today I was at the salvage yard and found shocks for it for 125 but me not thinking, the shocks came off of a 89 maxima se with disc breaks in the back.... So my question is will these shocks be of use to me or am I screwed? I really don't want to switch to discs but I really don't want to. Yes I have also searched the org to and have came up with nothing

I don't think you will have any issues with that at all.

OEM I was planning on lowering it but I haven't found to many things that I want to buy so im sticking with stock ride height for now till I find something decent and a little bit more money to spend also i'm trying to work out a misfire on it because it sounds as if im running on five cylinders driving normal until I reach higher rpm don't know why but I want it fixed lol

Might wanna see if the junkyard brake proportional valve is the same for the drum and disc setup...I'm thinking it maybe be a different p/n...

then unless you swap out everything and go rear disc it's not going to work.

the factory strut unit in the rear is all one piece and when that wears out you basically gut the insides of the rear strut (piston/seal/oil/etc) and drop in an aftermarket replacement. if you're looking to reuse the guts of the factory struts from another car into your car then you're doing a lot of work for very little/no gain.

(just noticed...i was asking if the junkyard units have aftermarket inserts in them...i hope they do otherwise it's a big waste of time)

Agreed, Your basically paying $125 just to trade bad struts for bad struts especially from an 89. Better off to save your pennies a little longer and replace the struts all around for around $350 to $400 and do it right. I could understand replacing a broken spring with one from a yard but otherwise there are just some parts you need to buy new and struts would be one of them. As far as your misfire goes have you done a full tune up being the car was parked in a barn for some time? If you have done a tune up ie plugs, wires cap and rotor for the distributor being a gxe, Fuel and air filter then i would next look to see if you have a bad injector causing your misfire.

I did a full tune up and the car that I had gotten the struts off of was the shops owners car he said the motor gave out but the struts were relatively new go figure... I was looking for an aftermarket struts but haven't found anything just yet mainly the front struts are shot the rears are not so bad but still are bad but the fronts looks like I have hydraulics the car only had 126k on it when it was pulled so I might get lucky just as a temporary fixed the long run plan is lowered and different struts that and I was thinkin bad injectors

If you've done a full tune up test the resistance on the injectors. All should be between 10-14 ohms if the numbers are far out of range on any one injector. theres your misfire. These 3rd gens are notorious for injectors

If you go to Rock Auto or Parts Geek reman'd injectors are rather inexpensive ($28 ea), injectors on these 3rd gen's are problematic now 20 yrs later....I know if you invest into new or reman'd you should have awesome troublefree service for many years to come....

Well I figured it out it was the cap and rotor but im still going to replace the injectors just for preventative maintenance. Also I have to do some work to find why oil is leaking on my heat shield. Next I have to Get A/C and Finally all she needs is the window regulators fixed all but the drivers side and she's golden.

I had more pictures of the car but my phone broke so I don't know it has leather heated mirrors and low mileage. But there's a few things that worry me think I should fix it and sell it or keep it and sell my white one

Oh no i'm keeping the white maxima that's my baby the black one I thought about getting for that so I can mod the white one more but I changed my mind on that plus I just came up on some rims for her. I did to much work to my max just to sell it plus its comfortable and quiet the two things I love in a car. Plus i'm already attached to this max so much i'm fixing everything and then some hahaha
