94 Transmission Problem?

Hello everyone,

Ive had this 94 maxima with around 180k miles on it for about 9 months now, and its been driving fine.

All of a sudden it started jerking when it shifts to second gear, and when its shifting to third it will rev high (~5k rpm) and ill have no power.
A couple times I couldn't even shift it into drive or reverse without it stalling.

These problems happen almost randomly. some days it will drive fine and others I wont even be able to drive 3 blocks. Ive taken it to several dealers and explained the problems, but they can not reproduce them, and tell me they found nothing wrong.

I bought the car for very cheap and dont want to put too much into it. If it is a simple fix though I would be very happy to continue driving it.

Thanks for your help.

sounds like your trans is going out. mine did the same thing, around 400,000km it would thunk going into gear and act up sometimes. changed the fluid, acted fine until 430,000km when the trans started slipping 1st gear. then a couple days later the engine started knocking and i called it quits

you cant bag the VG auto trans hard, the transmission itself is meant for 4 cylinder engines. VG30 are torquey V6 so the trans cant take abuse, hence why you see so many clean low mileage GXEs at the Junkyard. most of them probably have blown trans

RE4F02A transmission i believe only has a magnet no filter down below just drain and fill. I found seeing as when you do a fluid change approx. 4 litres still sits in the torque converter so best to drain and fill drive a few months do another drain and fill to flush out and clean the fluid. Doing an actual flush on these trannys can cause problems like clogging up the valve body with whatever deposits are there. You gotta remember these cars are over 20 years old.
