Symptoms: The light in the on/off button illuminates when pushed in, but the Cruise won't 'set' and the light in the cluster does not come on.

I've already checked the buttons/swithes on the foot pedals and checked the cable from the actuator. Both appear ok.

I remember reading the next step is to check certain wires with a multi-meter, but I don't know which ones or what to check (current or resistance).

On the chance that the control box itself is bad, where is it? I'd like to pull it out and try resoldering the connections. Since the Maximas door lock timer can be corrected with resoldering, I figured it'd be worth the shot before replacing anything.

I believe that the control box is located on top of the tranny. cant remember. I had mine replaced after my accident in 97. I had the same symptoms that you do. I could get the power light to come on, but it just wouldn't engage....

The ASCD unit is underneath the dash by the driver's right foot.

thats where its located the procedure to test it is listed in the chiltons manual and a few other places but is fairly complicated nothing as simple as resoldering a connection. If you want it I'll post it but Its beyond most peoples capabilities.

if u can fix it tell me how it goes, b/c i think i have the same problem. The light comes on next to the steering wheel, but the light on the dash doesn't come on, and if i press the cruise control button on the dash and the set button on the steering wheel, the cruise control light on the dash blinks till i turn it off.....

So many people seem to have this problem (me included), so it looks like you're gonna be our little "test dummy", go_speed_go!
