VE differentials
I just did a search on car-part.com for a used transmission, and it's giving me an option of a locking or non-locking differential for the 5 speed DOHC engine. I was under the impression that all SE's came with a limited slip (which is locking, correct?) differential. Anyone know anything about this?

they really had an LSD?
and for the record, no, lsd is not locking.
locking means that you flip a switch (so to speak) and both wheels spin at exactly the same rate. bad for turning, great for snow.
lsd dynamically balances power between, as subaru says, the wheels that slip and the wheels that grip. it never "locks"
i am not sure about the LSD ever being on a maxima. that would be a leap of faith for me, as I remember reading about a quaife differential available for 3g maximas.
am i wrong, guys?
maxima nerds?

twin cam motor and manual tranny usually had a limited slip differential. but to be sure just open the hood and check the metal shield on the passenger side of the firewall. you will see the VIN# and then the tranny code.
if it reads RS5F5OV then you have LSD
if it reads RS5F5OA then you have an open differential.
hey jdwyer is Extreme Nissan a dealership. if so how can i contact them.
