I never liked the idea of this. It cost a lot of money and it most likely will not come out too well, i mean you need to definetly change the stock computer since it is programmed to work with the automatic transmission so there alone you have a couple of dollars. You also change the rythem of your engine which believe it or not does get use to. I would consider just buying a stock 5-speed maxima. Most tranny shops will tell you not to change the computer and this might work and some cars and on some it won't.

An *** load of work and money. It's a far better idea to buy a 5spd and not screw with collecting all the parts and money, waiting for the mechanic to get his thumb out of his ***, and sparing the car for who knows how long. Trust me, if it were worth the trouble, we'd all do it.

I don't think it would be ALL that big of a deal. If you could find a 5spd that had been hit (hard) in the rear you could just swap parts until thing worked right. This wouldn't be expensive assuming you are skilled enough to do it yourself.

Personally I'm in this situation right now... my auto screwed up the other. It's started working "fine" again now... but it's on it's way out. I'm sure what I'm going to... I'm CONSIDERING the possibitly of doing a 5spd.

Everyone(with an automagic)..probably has thought about it before...but its just not worth it...in fact it has been done...but there were issues with if after completion......but like DA-MAX said....search button works wonders.

The other thing is that I'm not convinced that this is ALL that bad of a swap. I mean if you have both cars... one wrecked SE 5spd and an auto... then I mean... it should only be a matter of time and effort to switch it over. It really shouldn't be expensive. Just timing consuming. I mean... realistically if you HAD to you could even swap harnesses and all... I can't imagine that it would be ALL that hard. If I could find a 5spd for cheap I would probably do it. I mean... especially in my situation where I have an extra car that I can drive while I'm working on the other one... it's just not THAT big of a deal. (Or at least it doesn't seem like it would be)

Anyway... that's my $0.02...

if you guys will do a bit of studying on the 3rd gen, you'll notice the autos and 5 spds have a different plate welded onto the firewall.... this is probably because of the clutch pedal, and there's some other issues with the hydraulics.

the 5 spd swap has been done in a 4th gen (I saw it personally this weekend. his check engine light is constantly on due to all the loose wire connectors from the auto). but it does work.

the 3rd gen will be a lot harder because of the firewall issues.
