Auto transmission slipping?

Hi Guys!

My 94GXE ...when i put in drive and start to give a little gas to go...trans hesitates half second ...before i feel the transmission 'kick' in with almost a subtle jolt? Talking to the service guy...Hey says 'shift bushings' on the lever? 140k miles on speedo. Your replies thoughts appreciated...

yeap tranny going out. Nothing you can do about it. cheap easy way to prevent it from worsen. change fluid or ad lucas gear oil to help with the viscosity. if all else fail, cheaper way is to get a used/jy tranny for it. and move on with your life. At least that would be my order of list to go from.

All Vg auto trans for the 3rd gen are bolt on
'89-'91 VG SE 5speed is a bolt on
'92-'94 VE SE 5speed is a bolt on
'92-'94 VE SE auto is NOT a bolt on

Correct, 5speed will be a manual gearbox vs. automatic gearbox.
I had the same issue you are having years ago. Had it rebuilt but wasn't the same after the rebuild. Added Lucas additive, prolonged the lifespan of the rebuild a few more months until one morning it just locked up or just stayed in park, no matter what gear I put the trans in. I then swapped in another automatic trans whichever lasted only 3 months until it stayed in neutral for good. Was about to junk the car after that but finally came across a 5speed at my local junkyard and finally did the conversion. I've had the conversion done nearly 10 years ago and it still shifts like a champ.

These cars were meant to be 5spd.

Naw that's preposterous! That's when the boost kicks in. Lol Let me stop. Yeah it's on it's way. Here we commonly do the 5spd swap. Not that hard, but I don't know your skill level. I have a spare 5spd. The trans you see in my sig is a 5spd VE trans.

I had the automatic transmission on my 94 GXE rebuilt 8 years ago. Still going strong. No regrets!

I agree as well. Seems like it's the first one that was actually rebuilt properly.

I've had both my 90 & 94GXE's trannies rebuilt at approx. 130K ish miles. They just wear out and have to be rebuilt. I have 50+k miles on the rebuilt and it's going strong.

If you haven't decided on what to do, call my tranny guy here in Plano, Texas.
Jeff McLeod at Plano Automatic Transmission. 972/423-3666. He's the best and he'll tell you what has to be done to make these trannies work like new. Something about having the casing remilled so it will seal and hold pressure.

It was $1500 tax incl, probably 10+ years ago. Plano Automatic knows how to do it right. Don't go anywhere else!! Jeff's the Man!
He puts in a new torque converter and a shift kit along w/ all the other normal stuff.
