3rd gen not starting

so i recently replaced my intake manifold gaskets and now my 3rd gen 89' wont start. it cranks over and sounds like it wants to start and backfires but just wont start. the fuel pump is new as of 4 months ago the spark plugs are band new and the wires are brand new. i have oil and coolant. timing is set to dead zero and even tried other timing to see if it would start and it tries to start but just doesnt turn fully on. please help! i need her running. i double checked all plugs and everything is plugged in and fine.

Why'd you replace your IM gasket(s)? Were you having some symptoms previously that you narrowed down to the IM?

Are you getting spark (screwdriver in a plug boot test)?

And what do you mean by timing is set to "dead zero"?

did you pull the distributor out when you pull the IM?
you sure you got the plug wires in back in the correct location?
sounds like timing is definitely off.

i'm going to assume the OP means distributor timing in terms of where it's physically installed on the cam shaft.
you can't really set timing when the motor is not running.
there's spark since there's a back fire. the mixture is just lighting up at the wrong time.

sounds like the timing is off, id agree that maybe the distributor was put on wrong. did you take the plug wires off and put them back on the wrong spots?

Make sure you have a good seal on everything. If any air at all gets into the motor behind the MAF sensor. She wont run.
