Catalytic converter
Catalytic converter
When i got my car the flex pipe was completely torn and i finally got tired of it and replaced the front part of the exhaust that has the flex pipe but shen i took the old ond off i found out someone had previously welded it to the catalytic converter so i took the restof the exhaust off and tried to remove the catalytic converter and ended up rounding off the rear bolts so i cut it off does anyone know if there is a direct replacement cat for our cars or if one off a newer maxima would fit because i found a test pipe for a 95 cheap and it looks like it would fit but im not sure

the 4th gen test pipe MAY fit...but it's a chance you have to take.
if you don't want to run a cat then i'm sure a local exhaust place can weld you something up for under a 100 bucks.
if you want the cat on there there's plenty of aftermarket solutions available.

the reason im thinking about a getting a test pipe is because its cheaper than a new cat and im trying to stay away from an exhaust shop because they are the reason i have to replace the cat it was previously taken to an exhaust shop and they welded the front section of the exhaust to the catalytic converter

why the exhaust shop just welded it? because the owner didn't want to spend the time to get flanges and getting it fixed right. the stock flanges were probably totally trashed.
if you don't want to go to a shop then you'll better start learning how to weld.
you'll need a piece of pipe and 2 flanges that will mate up to the y-pipe and the b-pipe. once you have that you'll need to weld the flanges or at least have the ends of the pipes swaged so it creates a lip so the flange won't fall off.
getting it fixed and getting it fixed correctly are totally different things.
