So I've searched and I've read all about the VTC issues on the 92-94 Maxima SE, but I can't find the answer to my question. Does anyone know if the sprockets used in the 300zx are different? Are they interchangeable or not? I've replaced them on my I35 with one from an Altima. It just seems like they should be similar at least. I ask because I've found a 1992 SE for sale and I don't want this potential problem to scare me away from it. I want to be able to source the part should I go through with it.

 

I don't think that they are.

Looking at the looking at the parts book diagram, they are different. Plus, the engine in the 300ZX is called a VD30DTT, while the Maxima engine is called a VE30DE.

Thanks a lot! That's actually more helpful than I anticipated even if it doesn'. Solve the problem. I'm going to see the car in person tomorrow, so I think I'll go for it. It's a 1992 SE 5 spd with 145,000 miles in that creme white color.
