VTC sprocket trouble. HELP!!!

I just bought a 92 max and was told the VTC sprockets were in need of replacement. I did some searching and found that they could be bypassed. Anyway, I did the bypass and the chattering is still going on. I grounded the yellow/green wire and took the harness off it and it still happened so I removed the other harness and yet again it still happened. What am I doing wrong?. Could it be anything other than the VTC sprocket?. If yes, what could it be and if no then what is up with it?. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

VTCs could be just that bad. You cannot "bypass" them. Only configure them on or off. But if the spring is too weak, it will clatter like a diesel all the time.

I've had mine bypassed for about 2 years now, never did help the clattering thing but it did give me more low end power [idle-3500rpm].

ABS = probably going to want to pull the engine
at the very least, unbolt the tranny mounts and give the engine that gangsta lean

Shawn might know a thing or two about this

My JDM VTCs clack just a little bit on startup. I have the toyo filter, but I guess it's inevitable.

My JDM VTC's click also. But only the rear one. The front one is quiet. I have the Toyo filter and Mobil 1 in it but it didnt help. It doesn't tick though when I start it. After the car warms up and the temp goes to normal it "ticks" for about a minute. More like Clanks.

back to the original post here...

You said you grounded the wire but then "took the harness off it" right?

You are not supposed to take any harness off at all to do this.

Ground the wire and leave the harness on. You have to engage the solinoid and to do that the harness has to be connected.

I may have totally misunderstood what you wrote but if I didnt go back and reconect the harness and be sure you have a good ground.

I could but then I'd have to put on my coat, go outside, unlock the car, pop the hood, make sure the hood lever retracted all the way, pull the dipstick out, wip it off, put it back in, pull it out again, look at how much oil is in there, start to really feel bad about the fact that it's low on oil and months overdue for an oil change, close the hood, hope that it latched, come back inside the house, take off my coat , sit back down and say I'm off the dipstick . you dipstick
