The same thing happened with my 90 Max. It's just some loose wiring. The power switch switches the gear ratio.
If it is in POWER, the car will stay in 1st longer, giving you harder shifts and better acceleration COMFORT is the exact opposite, smoother, slower. The middle setting is just normal.

I heard from my trnny mechanic that if the bulbs are blown then the whole device stops working. He says it has somrthing to do with the circuit going to the computer. I think it might be a bunch of BS though. I just payed $8 to replace each bulb and now the power burnt out again. Does anyone know if there is any truth behind that. I personnally have felt no difference between any possistion of the switch since I have had my car.
92GXE, touring wing, 18” racing wheels, Port&Polished intake, custom intake, custom yellow interior, racing seats, back seats taken out and replaced with subs and amps, NOS kit, Suspension tech. Lowering springs, custom grille, soon to be custom painted and have the whole engine rebuilt for big shot NOS and custom SC and tranny converted to 5-speed

your mechanic is full of it
I have had my bulb burn out of the power side, and the car still performed as though it was in power, the bulbs do cost about 5 bucks from nissan, (my father is a service manager), but they are easy to replace... The switch just changes the shifting points, thats all no faster no nothin, just makes the car feel like it has more power by holding it into gear long enough to get to the peak torgue and horsepower points on the RPM curve....
Whao! Wait a Minute.....!
Explain something to me. I don't have this feature, but was told at one time when replacing my struts, the guy asked if I had the comfort control feature on my car. He said that it was a switch in the car that adjusted the pressure in the strut cylinder making the car ride smoother (comfort) or stiffer (sport/ or something). The struts for this special feature were like $500-$700 dollars a set if I recall correctly. Besides, I've got a straight drive. You're telling me that the Auto Max's have an adjustment inside the car for how long it stays in gear? Please, Matt, anyone, clear this up! Or, are these both features on the Max?
The bulbs have nothing to do whether or not it's working. My bulb burned out in my white car. They burn out often from what I hear. I went the the junk yard and got a new switch and put it in. Sara's right, just a burned out bulb.
Confused...
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but...
The A/T switch controls the shift point of the tranny, as said earlier. I think all automatic Max's are equipped with this. I got a '93 GXE and have it.
The shock stiffness switch is a whole other deal. I don't have this on my car, I think it was only on some SE models, as an option.
For those who think that the A/T switch doesn't do anything, your's must be broken. I can tell a difference with the RPM's racing higher, thus much worse mpg. The lights in the switch are easy to replace, and get them at RadioShack 2 for $1.89. See one of my other threads from about 3-4 weeks ago, we talked about these lights for a while.
