help me with tihs problem

ok, like a month ago my auto trans get a rebuild, to take out the tranny they have to take out the battery, intake and that stuff, the thing is that after every thing I notice that when my car its in neutral or parking the rpms are sometimes in 600 with the a/c and other times in like 1400!!! and I dind touch the screw that control the RPM. sometimes when the rpms are to high they jump to 1700 hten drop to 1300 and do this continuosly, changing in less than a second!!! and sometimes do the same thing when im crusin in the high way. Do you have an idea of whats the problem????? a friend of mine toll me that the mechanics leave a plug unplugged but i dont see it?
please help me with this.
BTW I have a 90 SE VG.

Thanks

Re: help me with tihs problem

I had a similar problem with my 94SE, which I think was due to a loose vacuum hose on the fuel pressure regulator; if this is the case, you should hear the hissing in the engine bay while the engine is running. The hose conects to the bottom of the regulator, so it is hard to see and probably easily overlooked when you had your intake manifold reinstalled. The regulator (on the VE engine, anyway) is on the driver side of the engine, between the heads; its about the size of a silver dollar. This may not be your problem, but it should be easy to check, anyway...
