Rear Strut Replacement

Anybody know of a good how-to on 3rd Gen rear strut replacement? Since I can only seem to find the strut cartridge replacements it seems a little more involved than your standard rear strut replacement. Haven't been able to find a step-by-step guide yet. Thanks!

It’s same set up like the 2’d gen you have to drop your rotor and caliper off and then you have to get into the rear deck and unbolt it and it’ll drop out then you have to take the whole rear spindle assembly and there’s a lock nut on the strut and you have to draw it out of the tube and you need to clean it cuz theirs liquid in it the. Drop in the new strut and use the new nut that came with it.

Got it, I assumed that was the case so thanks for the confirmation. Hoping somebody made a video or has a how-to with photos and helpful tips.

A pipe wrench is useful. How I did it is after the assembly is out, put the wheel back on with a couple of nuts snugged and put it face down on the floor (on cardboard, blanket etc.) for stability to get the cap started loose, but be ready to catch the oil inside. And, make sure that the cartridge doesn't have slop inside up and down with the big cap back on the housing- may need some kind of spacer(s). Theoretically, if you pour oil in around the new strut in the now empty space, it will conduct heat to the housing to keep it cool- won't hurt it otherwise. It's been a while, but did it a few times.
