93 gxe transmission issues

I was driving home one evening when my transmission blew on the freeway and I had to get towed home. My car won't engage in any gear but park keeps it in place. I was wondering if anyone has an Idea of what the issue could be or if you have a tranny I could buy. I was also wondering if the se manual transmission would fit.

First thing you need to check is the transmission fluid level, if the fluid level is good and the fluid is clean the trans is probably cooked. VG auto trans are designed for 4 banger engines and with the torque of VG30E which are basically a truck engine, they fail early and over half the VG auto in junkyards are there due to cooked transmissions. Will it move if you put the shifter into 1?

Regarding swapping to a 5spd on a 3rd gen, hit search and there's 20+ years of info on the subject here. There's other stuff you need to swap out but you can use a VG 5spd or VE 5spd if you swap hubs etc. IMO you're best off finding a wrecked 5spd donor car or finding one fresh at the junkyard and spending the day gutting everything for the 5spd

you'll need to swap hubs if you go VE 5spd. if you stay with VG then you can keep the hubs. you're supposed to swap the axle bearing carrier but not sure if people even notice there's a slight difference.

the pain is to correctly drill the holes for the master and run the lines to the slave.

wish you the best of luck if you can still find the parts.

The fluids fine so the tranny's toast. Thank you so much for the intel.

All G, if there's a transmission place by you that does free diagnostics it might be worth trying them incase it's potentially solenoids or something but VG auto trans have a notorious fail rate. Mine lasted to 430,000km but the majority of that was highway mileage, towards the engine of its life it was making a loud internal knock in the trans when I went into reverse then eventually it started slipping bad on acceleration from a stop despite being babied its whole life

Honestly I would go VE 5psd if you have the means, it's the beefiest trans for 3rd gen

Preparing for swap while looking for parts. Having very little trouble as I've taken these apart a few times.
