i call it a big problem because i don't want to be driving towards a sharp turn and find out my steering dosen't work. when the car is not moving and i try to turn my steering wheel, it's very hard to turn. i have to use two hands to turn it, you really have to put some muscle in it or it won't turn. has this happened to anyone else? is so what should i do.
In spite of some of the other silly things I've read here, I assume that the engine is running. In this case the power steering is not working. Either the fluid has leaked out, the belt is broken, or something in the steering rack has failed.

the engine if running the fluid is still there and the belt
is not broken, because it turns normaly after i drive it for a while. so i guess its the other thing you said. but if it is the other thing you said the steering wont lock up on me would it? has anyone ever heard of the steering wheel in any car locking up while the person was driving
I had an Oldsmobile (he said domestic!) that the boots on the steering rack had busted and dirt got inside. At idle and slow RPM's the steering would stick, more RPM'S, the more pressure through the lines for the assembly and the seizing of the wheel is not as noticeable. Check the boots to make sure they are intact and no dirt has penatrated into the shaft.
