Cracked ignition coils
Cracked ignition coils
My 92SE has been acting up for sometime now. What it does in any gear is that once you accelerate it will feel like it is about to shut off.
Now I've done the search thing on this website and found many different things that it could be. I have changed Air flow sensor, water temerature sensor put water remover in gas tank, although it doesn't get very cold down here in Texas. Long story short does anyone think it could be the ignition coils. I checked the ones on left side and all three of them are cracked. Any help appreciated. Courtesy Nissan here in Texas has them on national backorder.

Re: Cracked ignition coils
If you have a multimeter, check the resistance of each coil. It should be around 1 Ohm. If it is much higher, then the coil is bad and should be replaced. This is according to my Chilton's. I checked them for the helluvit and mine were all 0.9-1.1 Ohms. Hope that helps.

Cool, I'll give it a try, I just thought if they were cracked they would automatically be bad.
REPLACE THEM
Dude if they are cracked then it doesn't matter if they have continutity or not. The high voltage will short to ground and you will loose power and fuel economy! if they have more than 80k on them then go ahead and repalce them. You'll find how much power you've been missing. Order them from courtesy nissan in Texas, they give a %25 discount for org members, just tell them your ordering from the internet and you want the discount (coils should cost about $54 from courtesty).

my front three were cracked and had the same symptoms. CHANGE THE COILS. you will feel a HUGE difference. in the mean time, while you wait for the coils, you could wrap a single layer of electrical tape all around the cracked coils.

3 on the right side of engine and 3 on the left side. If you are standing on the drivers side of car looking towards passenger side.
The left side will be towards the front of car and the right towards the firewall of the car. The left ones have a 10mm bolt to unscrew and make sure you unplug the connectors and should pull right out. The ones on the right side have (2) two 10mm bolts on them. BTW O'reilly Auto here in Texas has them cheapper than Courtesy, but they can only carry the right ones. But Autozone carries the left ones. I have gotten the left ones which were the cracked ones already and it did make a difference I still have to replace the right ones. Well anyway atbul84 I hope that helps you out.
