Whos stock...?

yea F this lack of $$....How many of you 3rd genners are stock or not far from stock? After some rough calculations of my "car budget" for the immediate future i wont be able to put much $ into it except for regular maitnence until hopefully the late spring/summer. (paying for this accident really helped me out... ) I hope to get some new wheels, cai, tint, fstb, exhaust by or during summer. Until then, wishful thinking.

well...i don't have any real mods, except maybe tint and aftermarket HU and speakers. i wasn't going for competition sound or anything, but it's alright. but i have indiglo gauges, and pedals. aftermarket fogs (GXE), windshield washer nozzle lights (don't flame, that's not what this thread is for), 2 blue neons under the dash, all blue interior lights, and rewired clear corners. oh yeah, i guess clear corners are sorta a mod. and i got it painted black last november. i think that's about it for what's in it now. but i did just order leather seats from the group deal going on with leatherseats.com. i got black with pacific blue inserts, should look good, and i'm gonna redo the dash to match. and i am also ordering a FSTB sometime this weekend for my birthday which was yesterday! and hopefully by spring i'll get CAI, exhaust (dual hopefully), possible body kit, and upgrade the system. that's about it. sorry so long.

on a stock scale of 1-10 (1 = stockiest, 10 = modiest) id rate your car (based on description) as a 2.5

my '94 gxe is almost totally stock, unofortunately bills, rent, and eating take priority instead of pimping out my maxima =)

i did put some foglights on that i found at autozone for $20. this car was driven in germany by the previous owner and had some extra driving lights on it (i'm guessing that's why, i think they have some different lighting laws there). i replaced them with the yellow fog lamps which i think not only look pretty damn sweet, but also comein real handy from time to time as well.

someday i will actually replace that stock tape player that likes to change volume intensity at random. =)

I just have a FSTB and a K&N drop-in filter from the previous owner, which I don't even consider a "mod".

I also hope for more mods by the summer like rims, a few suspension enhancers... maybe more. It depends how the $$$ flow then. Hmm, I also have to remember about that mod sitting in the closet!

My Green 93GXE is a 1.75. I have 220k+ miles. I have CoolBlues (not really blue), and an Amsoil drop-in air filter. Oh, and the Eclipse head unit and 6x9's in the rear. I guess that makes me a full 2 then, huh. Oh, and I took out my driver's side speaker for making a pod, so that put's me back at 1.99

think i should start a club for stock maximas? I was thinkin SMC (Stock Maxima Club) but thats taken by SMC racing. So how bout the BASMC (Bad-A$$ Stock Maximas Club)? And it will apply to any stock max not just 3rd gens. And "stock" meaning any max that is totally stock or semi stock. (roughly a 1-3 on my scale)

Hmm... interesting, but it would be sooooo demoralizing because unless lots of people keep buying Maxes and joining, your membership count will always be going DOWN!

Oh yeah and another thing, the El Presidente for Life of the SMC/BASMC will be under constant pressure and temptation - just like that guy who has to guard the DEA evidence room!

i've heard removing the MAF screen is bad, that it actually straightens out the air and helps the MAF sensor read the incoming air. . . .just what i heard. ..

MAF screens, Good or Bad?

I thought about that. When I blow on the palm of my hand and then place the screen in front of my hand, I can only feel the air around the center of my palm. When I take the screen away again I can feel the air across my entire palm. The MAF sensor is on the top of the intake tract, not in the center, so removing it should help it out. I noticed a slight improvement in throttle response and sound. Plus the screen is made of round wires, round creates turbulence; airfoils and flat shapes make smooth flow. I think it's actually there as a backup for the air filter, since there's another one after the MAF as well, and to protect the MAF. I think I may remove the second one when I install an intake.

Honestly, nothing other than slightly improved throttle (feels like I'm opening the throttle more) and a little-bit louder intake. Nothing major. I did notice when I took it out that the front side was covered with a thin black residue. It came off easily with carb-cleaner (I was cleaning my MAF at the time). I dunno what that was but no bad side-effects yet. I was actually going to put it back in but I had scarred it badly with a screwdriver when I took it out and didn't want to damage the small ring gasket that fits in there.

Anyone know who makes a replacement MAF for our cars? The stock one isn't very large.
