Complete Nubie Here...Lots of Questions

Hi,
I am considering purchasing a 3rd generation Maxima. I know next to nothing about them. I have just stared looking and I have seen quite a few cars that appear to be very clean, but with somewhat high mileage (100,000-125,000). What can I expect to pay for a car in that condition, say 1991-1993? What should I look out for when looking at Maximas? Any particulr common problems to be aware of of? Any reason one trim level or year is better than another? How durable are the auto trannys? I have to get an auto cause my fiance will be using it as a daily driver and she doesn't drive a manual. Thanks for any info you guys can provide.
Adam

92 and up seem to have longer lasting transmissions
92-94 SE's have timing chains, but all the others use timing belts so it's a good idea to find out when or if it's been changed.

common problems:
broken exhaust studs - can be $$$
broken antenna mast - minor
display clock fading in and out or dead - minor
VTC's ticking away for the SE's - $$$
window regulators - minor

I dont think so. The problem with 3rd gens is tranny. All of them! Then the exhaust studs on the GXE trim level from 89-94 and Bab ____something(clicks at cold start) on SE from 92-94. If I were you I would save a little more and get the 4th gen with 5spd. Those have less if any problems if was/will be taken care off. I thank people on this site who told me not to get the 3rd gen. I went and got myself a 97 max and cant be any happier. Good Luck.

If you get a car with the Bose stereo, make sure it works alright.

You can try searching for more on this, but it might be tough since it's a broad topic.

I have a '91 SE with ~102K mi. The two biggest problems I've had so far are the Bose going out and lifter tick at startup. I even have the original clutch.
