sounds like the ground signal inside the door lock has begun to fail. replace the door lock and it should solve your problem. probably best to call your dealer and talk to them... there may be a smaller (cheaper) part you can purchase to replace the worn parts.

the way the alarm works is that it arms 90 sec after you shut and lock the doors. when you stick your key in the lock and turn the key, there's a contact on the lock mechanism that grounds a disarm wire tied to the alarm. the problem is that that connection gets dirty and worn over time and stops working properly.

oops.. yeah. my bad.. service manual says 30-40 seconds.

somewhere in the troubleshooting section it says to wait 90 seconds before pressing any buttons.. that's where I came up with it.. err something like that.

Thought I'd throw in that not only is the alarm armed as described above, but also, it will arm with the windows open. So, for example, if the alarm were set and someone, much like myself, were to absent-mindedly unlock the door by pulling up on the lock, the alarm would go off and freak out a neighborhood much like my own. Not that I ever did such a thing. Stop accusing me, man, lay off, okay?

Whatever, maybe I did find out the hard way. FYI, the alarm will also sound if someone locked on the inside of the car starts messing with the pull-up door locks. So fancy. Yep.

Re: stock alarm

are you using a after market alarm when the fact alarm goes off?
or does it go off when you unlock with the key?

because it does make a difference in diagnosing your problem
