I just got a 92 Se pearl it came with rims from a 97 max.
I will post photo soon. I also have a 94 gxe champagne. I owned a 90 SE pearl in the past. I regret selling that car bought a legend and hated it, looked for a month to find my se standard.
But, I do have a question anyone know about a lack of power in the se when it warms up? It seems to almost want to go but can't . You can even notice the tacometer fluctuating. I read online somewhere else that this problem is common. No solutions were granted. The news seemed to be it wasn;t the tune-ups, or fuel pump.

do you mean it feels sluggish at times? cuz this is a common problem with maximas. not really a fix, just a weak part in the powerband i guess.

no, it seems to lose 40 hp. Sometimes even when warm, it has all it's speed, but most of the time it seems to dog. If i shut it off for 10 min or so it'll back to running great for a while any way.

do you hear a knock or anything like that? you have a ve motor which is notorious for VTC assmebly problems...this will cause a definite loss in power...

well i dont know. when mine seems like that it's always because i'm low on coolant and the engine gets too hot. letting it sit always helps. that may be the reason right there. check your coolant.

I know it's common like I said earlier steve. I'm glad your here, try to discribe in detail what yours is doing and what you've replaced to troubleshoot it. The answers I got before was the ecu or injectors. But, these were suggestion not tried or proven successful. I figure with a great site like this one if we keep digging we will find a solution. I love this site by the way.
I've only had my car two weeks, i've bought plugs and wires have yet to get them on, from what I hear it won't fix the problem.

the vtc was changed at 70,000 its at 106,000 . It rattles a little upon idling. Not sure if this is it though. Should I ground that vtc wire Ive heard so much about. Does this hurt the car less power or what?

O2 Sensor ?!

As far as I know ECU begins to "listen" to O2 sensor in 5 to 10 minutes after start up of an engine (temperature sensor "permits" it). So it looks like your O2 sensor is dead. Also check your mpg - it is one more sign of the unproper air/fuel mixture.

Want the engine to run cooler? Buy some Water Wetter from Redline.

I noticed that too. Well dohc head back in 1992 aren't very well known for their low end grunt. But we can breath like a **** up high w/ the VTC assemblies. So most of my mods have been to concentrate on getting better lowend and letting the high improve on it's own. I'm suspecting the ecu is really kicking back the timing for some reason. I have a cali-spec'ed car and I thought it was the cali-spec cars doing that. Hmm I'm obvisouly wrong. My car definitely runs alot stronger now w/ the colder weather so it looks like it's temp related.

No problems with O2 ?

Are you sure guys? The O2 sensor installed on the Max is really very reliable. But at the same time I do beleive that 50% of 3rd Gen. Maximas have the sensors that too old to work properly. Remember please when you've replaced it, yeah?
One more thing. Don't you men afraid that Redline's Water Wetter will cause an intensive rust? The stuff is intended for heavy racing, not for everyday use. At the same time Maxima runs well even in Australia without any Wetters, doesn't it? Ask The Max - he knows.

Good luck.

My se runs very cool, needle sits less than halfway. This is not the problem. I find it's the top end that suffers. Lower rpm it runs fine. Except when it's cold of course runs like a bat out of HE!!. They're such good looking cars aren't they!!!!

You need mods and SOON! hehe. You got to let the VE breath.

I have a Cattman Y pipe, RT cat, custom cat back w/ Y2k muffler, JWT cone and a lightened flywheel. My car will pull right into the rev limiter. So for breathing mods, I highly recommend Cattman or Warpspeed Y pipe and either a cone filter or Cold Air intake type filter. These two mods will make the biggest difference

No, its not the o2 sensor....my dealer told me if my o2 sensor was bad, the engine check light would come on. We must work together to find this problem. My car has the problem in the lower rpm's. I tried to get this mechanic to do the vtc ground mod, wouldnt do it. I also tried to get him to adjust my timing, wouldnt do it. Says that it will mess with the ecu and confuse it.

Well IMHO, the engine light will turn on but not until the o2 sensor was operating bad ENOUGH to trip the light. That means it could be operating at an acceptable but no optimal level. Not that I think this is the cause for this particular problem but just me thoughts.

same thing happens to me all the damn time...

I allready got used to it. I think it can be a combination of everything that causes this power loss. I thought my car was in bad shape, so I replaced the Fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, and the O2 sensor. The O2 sensor made a big difference when I sat in the car and drove it away, it was pulling way harder, better acceleration and smoother too. I didn't have to floor the pedal down too much to get the max to move its ***. This was a few weeks ago and it was raelly cold, now its a bit warmer and car runs like sh*t again, I have all kinds of rattles and squealing noises everywhere, so i don't care about this power loss thing anymore, just learned to live with it.

Probably all Automatics are sluggish at times, temperature can be a factor, I've been told that the O2 sensor usually goes bad around 100k anyways, I replaced mine to see if my 220 miles on a full tank would improve, and it ****ing didn't.

So, Power loss is common on my car as well

Unfortunatley my wife's 94 gxe wouldn't start needed to take that in . The 92se still runs it's a matter of priority. This is this first problem ever with the 94gx in two years.
My 92se is a 5 speed so don't criticize the transmission it's not only auto's.
