Different (?) Door Lock problem

My '94SE has a problem with the door locks. When you try to UNLOCK the car from the outside with the key, the key won't quite turn all the way (feels like a 'pressure'), and the locks snap back locked.

I did do a search of the forums, but the problems I found here seem to be locks that lock themselves, people getting locked in, etc.

My problem occurs ONLY when I try to unlock the car from the outside using the key. I THOUGHT perhaps it had something to do with the cold, but I don't think that is true. I thought it had something to do with the angle I held the key (lift up slightly on the key after it is in the slot), but that doesn't seem to be right, either.

There is a very definite pressure feeling inside the lock (a resistance) when the problem occurs. It doesn't happen all the time.

Thanks.

Mine was doing that, but I had 2 keys, and I kept using the REALLY worn down one, it actually started to bend from the pressure... So I started using the *slightly* worn key, and the problem went away.
Except for the trunk.
Is it just the driver side, or both sides, and what about the trunk?
Could be either the key, or mebbe the locks are freezing up

The problem is caused by bad door lock actuators. Search for actuators. I think new ones cost around $100.

Me too

I have noticed that (even though the key is symmetrical) if I flip the key over, then it will work, and new keys hardly ever work, unless they are carefully made.

Re: Different (?) Door Lock problem

I used to have problems using the key to lock and unlock my driverside door. All I had to do is lubricate the locks with graphite powder. Now it works fine. I also had new keys made to replace the worn ones.

Same problem here. But it only happens when it's cold. In the winter time...it's a b*tch to open. I'm always afraid that my key is going to snap. I don't think the problem can be fixed by replacing the actuator since I replaced mine and the problem is still there. I tried spraying the entire keyhole with dry lubricant and the problem eased up...but never went away.

I've been thinking of getting keyless remote so that I wouldn't have to deal with this. Anyone here have keyless remote? good fix or??

Get keyless, i'm getting my put in in about a week, and my eclipse deck will be following the same day. Keyless is just easier anways, and with keyless and alarm it's much safer

Are you sure that it will solve the problem? I ask because even if I turn my key all the way and get the door to intially unlock...it snaps right back into locked position.
