Y - Pipe vs. Dual Exhaust
Y - Pipe vs. Dual Exhaust
Allow me to preface my question w/ the acknowledgement that I am aware that a Y pipe makes a significant improvement for the 3rd gen max and that a dual exhaust system on a transversely mounted engine is problematic (given space constainsts). BTW, I have searched for this subject on the org and although I see a max now and then w/ duals, I haven't been able to find a "how to" or a comparison thread.
Will a dual exhuast system provide a significant power improvement over a WSP Y - pipe? I'm by no means a professional designer or installer of exhaust systems, but I have designed and installed my own dual exhaust systems, and I have a source for cheap custom mandrel bends. Since Y pipes cannot be tuned to match the pulses of the separate bank of cylinders (due to unequal length head pipes), I'm wondering if there are a few horsepower left on the table. Before I start on this project, I'd like to get the benefit of some one else's experience.

Nope. Any dual system you see here on .org is for show more than anything else. Which is fine because no one is claiming up and down that it gives xxx hp.
Increasing the diameter of the pipe is MUCH more effective way of getting hp. ie.. a 3" dia. pipe as MUCH more area than a 2.5" dia pipe. or a 3" dia. pipe will flow more than 2 2.5" dia. pipes. Above examples are for references only.
