Does anyone has heating problem

Hello all. Just wondering. If anyone has experienced heating problem. My engine gets heated when I got stuck in traffic. I looked at under the hood. I find that the cooling fan is not working. I moved around the cable that goes to heat sensor. After I moved the cable the fan started to work again. It happens quite frequently. Does anyone has this problem? I thought of changing the cable but it looks too complicated. Is this just the cable of my heat sensor has problem?

problem is most likely a corroded connector on the sensor..

weird thing is that if you disconnect the sensor, the fans should come on automatically- as a safeguard.

check the resistance on the sensor with a multimeter..
cold engine (70F), it should be about 2.5k ohms.
warm (125F), should be 680 to 1000 ohms.
hot engine (175), it should be about 300-330 ohms.

if it's no good, or the connection is corroded badly, you need to buy a new sensor.. they're not terribly expensive.

I think the heat sensor has rust. So, I believe I need to clean it. Thanks.a
