Brake Questions / Concerns

Hey,

I just had all pads, rear rotors and rear calipers replaced on my Max. Now the braking feels like mush compared to before (I knew the pads were getting low but didn't anticipate new rotors or calipers). I trust my mechanic, but I'm wondering if he just made a judgemental error when diagnosing something, and replaced the calipers with the wrong ones, or maybe bad remanufactered ones? I'm so annoyed because my Max's brakes were so tight before, and now they feel like my old GM's P.O.S. brakes did. The only thing I can think of is that the pads need breaking in, but I doubt it because they don't have much to do with pedal travel / feel. Any help?

there's air in the brake system

Most likely your mechanic didn't bleed your brake system to let the air out. This happened to me before when I had my brakes serviced at a local shop. Since then I did everything myself whenever possible. Do a search on this site to find out how to bleed your brakes.

Good luck.

Dennis

If your brake is mushy is because the mechanic didn't bleed the brake sys. completely when he changed the caliper. Take the car back and tell him there is air in the brake sys. If u want the bleed the brake sys. urself, than u need another helper. Have the other person pump the brake and hold down on the brake pedal while the other person loosen the caliper bleed screw. Tighten the bleed screw and pump the brake again. loosen the bleed screw again and tighten the bleed screw again. Make sure that u have plenty of brake fluid in the resvoir. Repeat the step for all for wheels. It may be helpful if u start from the rear caliper.
