Hi guys: could somebody describe a more thorough method for flushing power steering fluid. The guys at the auto shop suggested that I unhook the hose that does not have high pressure fitting from the power steering pump and have a helper start the car while I drain the old one while putting the new one at the same time. Is this the actual method or somebody have a better way to flush it?

I appreciate your response.

P/S flush

This is exactly how I did it. Ran 3 quarts of ATF through before filling it with Royal Purple synthetic p/s fluid.

The fluid comes out pretty fast, but is not unmanagable. I spliced a long hose onto it, over the fender, into a 5 gallon bucket (clip or tape it!). Total capacity is only about a quart, so it drains pretty fast. This is where the helper comes in to switch of your engine while you line up your containers for a fill.

I wonder if something like this would also work for changing the fluid in an auto transmission? Pulling the drain plug only gets 4 of the 10 quarts. Might be worth trying when putting in a tranny cooler, and the hoses are disconnected.
