What happened to your tranny?

Kaleb how did you kill your auto? Or are you doing a rebuild with stronger heavy duty parts?

Man you guys don't pay attention!!! :0)

Nothing was wrong with my transmission after 167,000 miles, I just decided that while I had extra cash (and the best Nissan transmission specialist in the region working at Courtesy) that I would have him rebuild it before "it was too late". And judging by the things he pointed out to me when we got in there, it was very good timing. He said it hadn't quite started to cause metal-to-metal wear on the front carrier gear yet, and that's what screws up the valve bodies... Also, as you can see in the pics, the brake band was starting to flake.

And before you guys start flaming me... the reason I didn't use the Protorque Torque Converter was because it was $400 + $50 shipping, I paid $175 for my rebuilt one that we've been using for 8 years without a hitch (even on 300Zs, etc), and after talking to one of the head guys at Protorque for about 10 minutes, he seemed less interested in explaining the features, etc to me than just getting me off the phone.

It didn't blow... I didn't ruin it.. and I didn't upgrade any parts, I just replaced the key things with Nissan parts. Solenoids, front carrier, brake band, all 4 CV boots, all seals (duh), TC, high clutches.

Hmm how much did all these parts cost? Also as for the TC what it does is allow you to launch with more rpms on start off. The best example I can give you is when you first accelerate normally the rpms are like this with stock TC. idle, 1100, 1300, 1500, 1700, 1800, shift. Now with my protorque TC its like idle, 1500, 1700, 1900, shift. That is with the least amount of throttle. Now with abit more than a granny take off (again normal driving) it does this idle, 1800, shift (unless I have it in 1st gear). If I feel that I want to get the jump or wind out first gear alittle more I do this. Idle, 1900, 2100, 2400, 2800, 3000, shift. When I had my stock TC it was idle, 1300, 1600, 1800, 1900, 2200, 2500, 2700, shift. Remember this is with the same amount of throttle. Now if I flash stalled the protorque TC it does this, idle, brake torque to 1500, punch the gas off the brakes, 3000 (wheelspin), 2700, then revs to redline. The stock TC was like this idle, brake torque to 1500, punch the gas/off brake, 2500, 2200 then rev to redline. The only bad thing is that the stock TCU programming makes the car shift out of 1st so quickly because of the higher stall TC.

Enjoy!
wow...that looks scary to work on. is it just a simple bolt everything off and bolt the new stuff back on or does it take some kind of expertise to line up stuff and etc??

what's that blue gooey stuff? grease or assembly lube?
thanks!
Dan
P.S. how about a breakdown or list of the parts that you used so if someone wants to rebuild they can just get "the package" ya know....i'm sure Steve would love that..heehee
