Don't Buy Cheap Colored Bulbs!

Yeah, just a little public service announcement. I was in Wal Mart today, and I see these blue 194 bulbs and I'm like 'Cool! I want some of these.' So I buy them, and they were 3.00 for 2. I rip apart my whole dash and install the suckers and MY GAUGES ARE STILL GREEN ARGH! Upon closer inspection, the bulbs were thinly painted thus showing green with light and they didn't even have paint on the top. In conclusion, if you see GE bulbs on sale at Wal-Mart, pass them right on by. Oh yeah, I ended up taking off the condoms and just having clear bulbs and white guages. Anything to get rid of Green.

ummmmmm green lights on a white gauge would look interesting i think. especially green light on the SE gauges. I think it would look neat as hell, better then the gay green lights on the gxe gauges.

Re: Re: Don't Buy Cheap Colored Bulbs!

you know whats funny, i bought some cheap-a$$ red 194's to put in back of my guages about 2 months ago. i really tought that they were going to fade, but to my surprise, they are still red. i mean there is absolutely no fading. i dont know what it is, maybe its because red doesnt fade as much? or maybe its just a miracle. but anyways, i would recommend red, if you dont want fading, and you dont want to fork out more than like $3.

I drove the car around for a while, and they look great actually, the white has really good contrast, and the orange needles really pop out. just for the hell of it I put the blues in the map lights.

get the Eurolite SuperWhite 194s. They are a blue glass bulb (not painted) and actually brighten the gauges twice as much as the stock bulbs.

You may be able to find Xenon Amber bulbs. I hear those work well also.

aren't those the stock gauges and needles for the SE
all he did was change the bulbs behind, but hey i might be wrong. But i think it's just silly to spend 70 bucks on indiglo needles on a SE gauge when their needles looks like the indiglo needles stock.

They are completely stock.

Everyone who gets in my car at night asks me where I got my needles and how I got them to glow on the gauge face. They are much brighter in person tho.

Thanks man, I painted all the panels myself. I used auto spray. If done correctly, it will come out very smooth and clean. It took me about 6 hours to do though. And the Steering wheel was done the same as the dash. I'll take some close ups of it soon for you.

Those are GXE gauges, right? How did you make the gauges red and the needles blue? I thought that they are always green? Those look cool tho
