CAI question

CAI question
I found a Place Racing CAI online for sale by a private party that was taken from a '99 Maxima. I asked the guy if it would work on a 3rd gen and he said he is not sure. What do you guys think?
Also, does CAI make any difference in sound after you install it? Can you hear the engine hissing a little bit because of all the air being sucked in?

IMO brand name for cold air intakes are all a scam. It doesn't really matter what kind of tube is used or who makes it. A tube is a tube, what really matters is the filter. ANd since both comes with k&n filter, they will both be pretty much the same damn thing only different label. So it's not worth spending 200 dollars for a PR CAI when you can pretty much get the same thing for a WSP CAI for 50 dollars less.

Yeah you can hear the air getting sucked in if you don't give it a lot of throttle, but if you do, it makes a very LOUD growling that get's louder as your reves go up. First mod I did to my max, I have the PR, and it sounds better with the Monster Flow air filter, which is the new one. Pretty easy to install yourself too

Place Racing Cold Air Intake kits no longer come with the
K&N filters, instead Place Racing now includes a special hi-flow
filter that is much higher quality then the K&N.
These are Monster Flow filters and cost more then K&N filters,it is
included in your kit at no extra charge.
Many people replace their K&N filter with this one and notice
a big improvements.

I doubt it really costs more, but Ill probably get a K&N once I get my car back from the tranny shop, I just put the monster on because they were comming to get the car, and I didnt get a chance to get one.

what about a by pass valve for the CAI to remove water that may get into the system? since the filter is pretty much mounted in the fender depending on your year left fender on mine, what other premeasures should be taken to prevent water getting into the system? Was going to buy one this past weekend but some local retailers were throwing in other factors on the install such as the by pass valve? not sure but at the time caught my mind!! Things that make u go hmmmmmmm!!!! let me know though
