Weird shakin' goin' on!

It just started doing this recently. I start the car then put it into 'reverse' to pull out of my parking spot. When I do this, the engine starts shaking the whole car acting like it's misfiring. If I step on the gas, it'll do it briefly then stop altogether. Does this sound like my timing is off or something? I have no idea what's going on here, can you guys help me out?

I'm thinking that it has something to do with the car needing a tune-up. I'll ask the dealer about it.

From experience dude, dont go to the dealer for a tune up. even though it seems right, but atleast with the nissan around here, they allways find something wrong with the car. Last time i went in to the dealership, they said i needed a new timing belt. Seeing how i replaced the original at 70k and my car only had 100k ish when i took it in, that cant be possible. Nissan will try to hit yah up for every little thing. Best advice go to like a performace shop, or any local guy, who seems trustworthy.

Welcome to my problem, ive seen a few posts on this recently. Da-max was gettin it too, and ive had it for a long time. Something is wrong with my injector circuit. does your check engine light go on also? This problem only happens on mine when the engine is already HOT. it goes away on mine anywhere from 15 seconds to 2 minutes, like when the engine reheats itself completly.. welcome to 5 cylinders. i'd be curious to see if your check engine light is coming on if you get the same 51 error code as me if you do a self diagnosis on your ECU.

IT really sucks, makes the car sound like a peice of **** until it goes away..

Brandon I'm gonna try a few thing tommorow before my mechanic gets his hands on it...I'll let you know. BTW, what brand plugs are you using, NGK?? I think my prob might be "fouled" plugs....I do run my car HARD daily, and my timing was @ 20(25 a month ago for a week), so maybe the generic plugs Merchants Auto put in my car last tuneup couldn't handle the "stress"....I'll see what happens and I'm gonna run a the diagnosic too! manifolds are off for a cleaning and the new NGK plugs will be going in with wires...hoping for the best!

i just changed my plugs, put brand new NGK's in there and same **** is happening. Also got a new cap and rotor for the distributer, and my plug wires look alright so i dont wanan drop 70 bucks to replace em.. i think its something with the electircal connectors to the injectors, i just havent had time or pateince to fully examine everything..

I was considering just changing the injectors all together(thanks to Brayn91se's great directions) and the $40 a piece for rebuilt injectors ain't half bad...but I'm on the verge of getting a new engine in 2 months, I'm hoping to hold out.....stupid *** problems! hopefully this weekend will solve it!

I'll second that. Injectors sounds like a good explanation. I think you can quickly test them by leaving the car idle and get under the hood to press on the back of the injectors. If you press on them and the car idles differently then there is at least something loose or not in 100% condition. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. What do you guys think of shifting between 3.2k-3.8k? 3.8k isn't too hard for every day use, right? I usually shift at 3.2k but it seems like I have to give it a little more gas lately. I think I'm in need of a tune-up.

Injectors?

How do you press on the injector manually? I have a GXE, where are my injectors on the engine. I'd like to clean them myself. I know my car is probably due for new *sparkies*, so maybe that's the deal.

My check engine light does NOT come on when it's doing this. There's a pretty good mechanic that my family has taken their cars to and he's fixed them all honestly, so I'll probably check them out. Thanks for the advise!

KCmax, the injectors are near each spark plug. They aren't hard to see. They should be these little black plug-looking things near each spark plug. That's my professional phrase for the day: plug-looking things! Anyways, just find those and press on the back of them. Its kind of hard to explain but very easy. The injector remains where it is supposed to be, but you are just pressing the exposed section from the outside. If it does change the idle a little bit, you should easily be able to tell by the sound. There are also other ways to check them of course, but those require taking stuff apart.

Ok, when I find these things and I press on them and if they make a dif in idle, what does that mean? b/c the car just like me fingering it's injectors

I went by the dealer yesterday. The mechanic said that it could be a number of things. I mentioned a complete tune-up and he said that would probably cure it. He said that the timing could be off which is causing it to shake. He also said that it could have something to do with the plugs being fouled up. Like I said, the car only does it when it's cold. Spark plugs work more efficiently when they're hot and he said that a good way to tell if the car needs new *sparkies* is when it idles roughly when cold. *Sparkies* need to be replace every 30K and mine have about 40K on them now! LOL! So, since the plugs need replacing anyway, I'm going to replace them w/ the NGK's and see where that leads me. Thanks for the advise though!

Well, there is a bunch of things it could mean. I think what seems to be most common is that the injector wires become exposed (the rubber pieces covering them can become cracked with age) and it can affect them somehow. I'm no expert on them or anything but, I remember that it can affect them somehow. The injectors could just need a good cleaning. There are better ways to test them though, such as removing each injector and testing the spray pattern for inconsistancies.

Problem solved(at least for me)--->

#5 injector commited suicide I guess....I got up ealry, manifolds were back on and everything, checked voltage across all 6 injectors and #5 was totally out of the game!!! his last words to me were..."you bastard....you expected me to hold boost, ha!!"(LOL) anyways checked Cyl. 5 compression too and according to my mechanic, 120 was perfect(good 'ole gung ho VG compression!)....so now looks like it'll be 2-3 weeks off the road, and I'm gonna go the Bryan91se route and get all 6 rebuilt and replaced from directauto....and I was just about to buy the ECU next week....ARGGHHHHHHH, so ****ed right now!!!!!

wow so for the next couple weeks I'll be reaccquainted with the public transit system and my girls POS 4cyl automatic Galant......

when my car is all better though I will have my vengence....MUAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
