Whats the best motor oil for a 89?
I have a 89 se with 138,000 and ever since the car was bought new by grandmother she has continued to put mobil 1 in the car. Now I have the car and I want to continue with that oil, but for some reason my dad said that I am wasting my money and that I should use the cheaper oil on my car because of the miles.I know the engine is in good shape because i take up to redline all the time and it is as smooth as can be.The only thing that has gone wrong was the alt. So what do u guys think about using mobile 1?
Thanx for ur help.

Thats what I said to my dad but he wouldnt listen. I use the tri-syn in my car as well. The time I listened to my dad and used pennzoil, my oil was black with under 2000 miles on the oil. So now I like to stick with what ferrari, porsche, corvette, mclaren and every other high end car company reccomends.
but as the miles get higher would tri-syn hack it thou?
would a try-syn oil work as well as a high mileage oil, or is it all a scam to get people to buy more high mileage oil.
To tell you the truth, i guess i can see where your dad is getting at. Why spend so much more money on a 10 years old car? There is really no point in using expensive stuff when you keep up with your usual schedule maintance. I mean tir-syn oil is great for your car and all, but do you push your car to the limit all the time? If penzoil has been proven to work then keep on using it i guess
) Besides a car with so many miles and years, i would start changing the oil well before 3k, around 2k or so.
