Suspension Tech Springs

Hey guys, any of you have Suspension Tech springs? How do you like them? What's the ridew like? I'm probably going to buy wither suspension tech, or eibach, but I like the Suspention Tech drop.

Eibach will have a better ride, but IMO they are crap. If you like a drop and care at all about performance, MO would be to go with ST!

other than a lesser drop whats your reasoning behind saying eibachs are crap?

Well i have eibachs on one of my 3rd gens and i just friggin hate it while driving in NYC, the car is too stiff and every single little hole or uneven road gets noticed very quickly, it comes to the point where your suspension starts clicking while going over very small bumps. I've been in my friends 3rd gen with Intrax springs and Eibachs, and the Intrax springs aside from a little bouncy ride ( Which i love , it gives you that nice sporty feeling )I would take them over Eibachs any day, it has really good handling and a very very sick drop, so If anyone is intrested in a noticeable drop yet good handling, I'd say go with either Intrax or S.t.'s

i have STs and love them
you'll be very disappointed when you first put them on though, they settle over a month or so (mine are still settling). but overall my car now rides like my dads 97 maxima SE w/45k, except it corners better (IMO).

since not many members use the ST spring, go with it, they might actually work out good.

EIbach if you really want performance, but I am biased.

I put Sprint springs on my Mirage turbo, everyone on the Mirage board said they were no good, well, no one ever tried, So i did. What do you think happened, they improved the ride by a great margin. Although the confortable ride is gone, its all control now!

Be different, do your own thing.

Id really look into AGX shocks if they are readily available for our ****box maxipads.

Hey thanks y'all, I'm going to go with the S.T springs, I guess I should start a new thread, but I've read that I will need to replace my struts, what is an affordable brand, that will be good performance wise. Thanks

I just put ST springs and Tokico struts on last weekend! So far i love them, the ride is kinda soft i think and the car looks great lowered. I dont have much experience with different suspensions so i cant say if there the best, but i do love the ride.

i thought the eibachs felt sloppier than my ST's. for some reason. Prolly the progression. i like the feel of a linear spring better. Depending on what size sidewall you're gonna be running. If you're rollin around on 35 series tires, it's gonna be rough no matter what spring you have. . ..

BTW, my ST's have a very nice ride with 45 series tires

ok since they are stiffer, hence the ride would be more harsh.
how can that explain the ride would be better?

It's really just a matter of opinion. They both perform great. I personally agree with Ryan, though...

because they are progressive. they may be stiffer, but there is a section of coil that has a lower spring rate. You can see it when you look at them. it's the tighter coils. anyway, those tighter coils take up the small bumps in the road, as opposed to the linear springs which have one spring rate, they make you feel every bump in the road.

Personally i prefer linear to progressive because under moderate cornering, and in transitions, you don't have the slop that the progressive springs have untill they reach the stiffer section of spring. I have never experienced progressive springs on a maxima at autox, but i have driven with them on the street. Quite honestly, as long as your shocks aren't sick stiff, your ride will be fine both ways.

well basically i like the handling increase with STs but if i had the choice i would not buy them again. the front after 2 months use sat almost 3 inches higher than the rear. granted i do have a lot of stereo equipment in the back, still 3 inches? f that.

glad i'm not the only one. there's a few others on 4dsc.com that have had the same problem. whatever you do, don't cut them it may ride lower but the comfortable nice ride will turn into eibach/koni super stiffness

You shoulnd't have bought cheap springs

mine are about dead even, even with my subs in the back. the rear wheels look tucked maybe a little more than the front, but if you measure from the rocker panel it's even.

here's a couple of pics of my drop. .. . . .

the one of the wing was making fun of a girl that bolted an aluminum wing on her civic

the last pic, that was before i cleaned up the exhaust. you can see the brackets and stuff, and that's not exactly it's most photogenic angle. . . ..

that should give you an idea. .. . .the rear is a little lower than the front, but i think shocks will probably help . . .

details

well heres the details. number of inches from center of rim to the top of the fender/quarter panel

my dad's stock car with struts in good shape
FR 16
FL 16.25
RR 15
RL 15

my car with blown struts and stock springs
FR 15.5
FL 15
RR 13.5
RL 13.5

my car after ST and new struts (stayed the same after 4 months)
FR 14.5
FL 14.5
RR 12.75
RL 12.75

my car after cutting one loop off ST
FR 14.5
FL 14.25
RR 12.75
RL 12.75

diff from mine and dad's
FR 16-14.25 = 1.75
FL 16.25-14.25 = 2
RR 15-12.75 = 2.25
RL 15-12.75 = 2.25

diff from mine stock(bad struts) to now (cut STs and gr2s)

FR 15.5-14.5 = 1
FL 15-14.25 = .75
RR 13.5-12.75 = .75
RL 13.5-12.75 = .75

bottom line, ST springs are not even

That difference is a bit disturbing, however most of the pics I've seen have the car even. I'm still going with the ST springs

yeah most that i've seen is even as well. maybe theres something to do with vg vs ve motors. is there a significate weight different between the two? the other i found with the same problem has a vg auto, i have a vg stick and my father's max is a vg auto. oh well maybe i just got a bum set. good luck

hmmmm cut springs kinda freaks me out. . . . KYB GR's are stock shocks too. . . . i dunno man, my shocks aren't toast, but they're stock, and mine is pretty even. I'll bust out the ol tape measure later today

KYB Gr2s are a good 25% stiffer than stock OEM shocks.

I agree with you on the drop, though. Mine are pretty even when you measure, even when I have bumps-in-da-trunk.

I think I might put KYB's on my car. The quote from shox.com puts them at $229.00 and Tokico at $309.00, and Koni at $520.00
So for lowering sake I'm probobly just going to get KYB's and then if it's real bad upgrade later.

Hey Flyry110, how's the ride with ST springs and stock struts? If I can I might just leave the struts.

Thanks for helping me guys

Are those the springs they sell on ebay claiming there a 2 inch drop. How is the ride overall?

Eibach: 1.5"
ST: 1.75"
Intrax: 1.8"
Sprint: 1.8-2" (I've heard both)
Aerospeed: 1.8" (I'm pretty sure)

I don't know what springs you're talking about on eBay, but they're not STs if they say 2" drop.
Eibachs are real stiff and need a properly matched strut damping rate, like Tokicos.
STs have a really great balance between ride quality and performance, IMO.

Eibach makes a 1.2 and 1.5 drop but I think only the 1.2 is available for the 3rd gen..

ST: 1.5 (and tend to ride higher in the front)

Intrax: 1.75

Arospeed: 1.75

Sprint: 1.8 (People like to say 2" for some reason though)

There's also some other springs available like Dropzone (I think?) and some other lesser heard of brands...

Re: Suspension Tech Springs

i dindt read any of the posts, too much for me, but i have sus. tech. i like them a lot, when they first put them on though the rear was about an inch lower than the front but a week or so later everything evened out, you dont need a camber kit either, my tires wear very evenly.

any suggestions for a more even spring? the STs are perfect in the rear but a little high up front.

I have ST's and love them..

Actually mine are even in front and rear, I measured. The fronts just look a little higher because my tires do not tuck into the fender like the backs and I have 18's. Ride quality is not bad. Not harsh at all but much better then stock.
