I know a place that does it. In fact I got a quote on this exact thing. I asked for them to inlay the steering wheel with wood and wrap it in fresh leather. The cost was about 385 bucks. Go to Www.Exoticwooddash.com . They have a lot of things you can do, just give them a ring and see. I know that you will have to ship the steering wheel to them, I think they are located in AZ.

There is a local upholstery place that I called and he told me it would be about $50 to do mine...that seemed kinda low for leather so I am going to make sure it is quality leather before I get it done.

I just put on a product called wheelskin... I got it for $30 which is the best price I have seen for this product at http://www.autobarn.net/wheelgenleat.html

It took me a couple of hours to do it and boy are my hands sore!!! But for the money you can't beat it. I can post a couple of pics tomorrow so you can check it out. But for the money it is the best deal BY FAR!!!

while were on the leather topic, has anyone ever heard of "allante"...like a supposedly "imitation leather"; is this a good material? Im replacing my cloth door panel inserts with leather and i stopped by a local upholstery shop to get sheets of leather and the lady tells me that "no car uses real leather on the door inserts not even mercedes" To my knowledge, maybe true maybe not. Obviously this "allante" material will be cheaper than real leather but if its not much of a difference in price im goin with leather.

I need to refinish my steering wheel too! I guess it's out of the question for anyone to just re-do the surface of it without removing huh?

EDIT: MadMax92SE, what was so hard about the install? The Wheelskins description says "easy to install" so when someone says it was actually hard, this worries me.

I thought about the wheelskins covers but don't like how they don't cover the small part of the spokes that lead up to the center (airbag) so I would rather pay a little more and get it done and look factory.

I have only seen pictures though so if it does cover that little part let me know and I will look into it some more.

Well, I worked with a fellow who owned an upholstery shop, and he custom cut everything from leather, including the door panels. I believe he used to also order kits from a company called Katskin (Katzin??) that were completely leather. If you're interested in their product, I can look into it at work (still have contact numbers and all).

Anyway, the person who told you that NO CAR uses real leather on the doors is wrong. He did do the fake leather too, usually selling it on the grounds that it is easier to maintain than real leather.

For what it's worth, that my experience with fake leather.

Kinda reminds me of this beat-up Max I looked at once. It was for sale and from the huge wear-through hole at the top of the steering wheel, and the places on the car that the paint was worn off, I concluded the car had been owned by a travelling salesman who had a hook for a left hand and possibly wore fish-handling gloves.

I have a black interior and there was a rip on top of my wheel when I bought it (probably from sunlight). You guys will think I'm crazy, but I bought a leather cover from Autozone and put it on. I think Pep Boys sell them also. I forget the brand, but it is the kind you must sew on yourself and comes in a square box. It cost around $15 and took maybe 45min to put it on right. It takes some time sewing the seams together around the inside of the wheel rim, but it feels AWESOME and thickens the wheel up a bit. I've had it on for 1 1/2 years and it still looks like new. Totally worth it in my opinion. The black leather color also matches the interior black perfectly. I have no idea about other colors, good luck!
