94 MAX RPM Drop and then Surge

I have 1994 Maxima SE with 120K miles - 5-speed manual. I’m having problems with the RPM. I would be at a stoplight, in neutral, and all of the sudden, the RPM would drop to below 500 RPM and then surge up to about 1000 RPM. After a few minutes, the RPM would drop to 700 where, I believe, should be. A few times, I would be turned the corner, clutch not engaged, and the RPM would drop and stall the car. My cousin preformed an induction flush, which almost got rid of the problem. Every now and then, the problem appears, although not as bad.

I already changed the gas filter, air filter, and NGK platinum spark plugs. Is there an easy way to check for leaks without inspecting inch by inch? I heard about spraying propane over the vacuum lines.

Is there any thing that I should be looking for concerning the RPM problem? Vacuum leaks, etc. The car is sluggish, esp. with the A/C on.

Are the ignition coils original? if so, they should all be replaced (~$50 a piece from courtesy nissan).
Also run some injector cleaner, and clean the throttle body.

Idling problems could be a dirty throttle body (easy fix with some cleaner), or a clogged or failing IACV (idle air control valve). I'm guessing it's the IACV because you mentioned that the car stalled when going around a corner (i.e. power steering engaged). There is a sensor that detects when the power steering is engaged and tells the IACV to give the engine some more air do to the added load of the ps pump. Get a chilton's manual, it will tell you how to test or clean the IACV among other things.
