Starting Problems in Wet Conditions, any ideas?

I have 175K miles with original cap & wires. Engine turns over fine, just no 'kick-in' sometimes when it rains. Will eventually start, but sometimes with some hesitation at first. When dry, absolutly no problems. Any ideas?

Hmmm, methinks he just wants someone to tell him, "Yes, it's okay for you to change your 175K cap and wires...."

Change the rotor too if that comes separately.

Or you can carry a can of WD-40 and spray the wires and distributor before you start up the car in the rain. This was how I started my old Mazda GLC before I broke down and bought new wires. The WD-40 dries the wires out.

Nice response, Bman. Actually, even though they are somewhat old, they look fine with no cracks. I did discover the problem, though. There was just enough build-up of grease/dirt under the top cover that it was conducting the spark away from the wires when it contained a small amt of moisture. Cleaned it off, and she fired right up. Still, I may drop a new set of wires just to be on the safe side.

Glad you found out what it was. Some parts should just be changed after X number of miles even if they look OK, that's all.
