I have a 92 SE, and am woundering how much it will cost me to replace the CV joint...or whole axle...it makes that clunking noise when turning left....the noise is on the left side....and the boot is torn on the right side.....suggestions?

you can only replace the whole axle.. they are about $400 each from courtesy, but you can most likely find cheaper aftermarket brands.
I would recommend OEM parts, but it's a free country.. choose what you feel is bext for you..

if you get the boot replaced on the right side quickly enough, the job will only be labor + $9 in parts, instead of labor + $400 in parts..
jump on that one ASAP before it dies.

so you have to replace both cvj's? you cant just replace one? i didnt know that. i think you can get remanufactured axles for a fair price and then give them your old one.

no, you don't have to replace both axles, but he said the left axle was clicking (dead), and the boot was torn on the right side axle..

sooo, he needs to replace the left axle, and get the boot fixed on the right axle before it causes any more damage.

IS there anybody who makes any aftermarket axles for our cars. I have a feeling that once I get the power I want and my tranny right that I'll start tearing apart CV joints. I've heard that ours arent the greatest anyway and I was just wondering if courtesy or anyone made any stronger ones.

92GXE, touring wing, 18” racing wheels, Port&Polished intake, custom intake, custom yellow interior, racing seats, back seats taken out and replaced with subs and amps, NOS kit, Suspension tech. Lowering springs, custom grille, soon to be custom painted and have the whole engine rebuilt for big shot NOS and custom SC and tranny converted to 5-speed.

If it is already clunking, then the cv is probably shot. Look into replacing the whole axle. But before you do, check the other side and see if it's on the way out too. If so, just do both sides. Also replace the output shaft seals on the tranny when replacing the cv joint/axles. It will save you a bunch of trouble later.

Actually, the CVs I've seen from Nissan are tougher than most import CVs.. honda joints are trash compared to ours.
as for your power, the CV joints are more than strong enough- as long as you keep them maintained.. keep good boots on them and keep them lubed (which if you keep a good boot on it, you're fine), and you shouldn't have any problems..
If you get enough power to where you're worried about axles, you should be more worried about tearing the tranny out of your car and strengthening the motor mounts and engine bay frame before you should have to mess with axles.

Thanks Matt. I just replaced both of them so I should be fine for a while. I'm getting a 5-speed put in the car in a few weeks and I was going to put a stage 3 clutch in it. Are these clutches worth the money. I am planning on having about 300hp to the wheels after I'm done.

Please tell me how are you going to have 300hp to the wheels? I want that toooo, although they say the most a mxima can have is 220 without NOS and thats the 92-94 se. So please explain.

yeah basically after I change my dry system to a wet system I should pick up about 100hp from that. I am going to get some headwork and a custom ECU so it should be around 300hp.
