? to do w/my 89' SE?

i have a 89 SE and i love the car. it has 163,000mi on it. so far i haven't found anyother maxima with all the inside features this has esp the HUD, electronic dash, adjustable suspension and transmission. the car has lots of miles, not as much stock hp as lets say a 93 and needs some electrical work. i want to do a lot of work like a body kit, new paint, 18" chromes, sound system, and maybe boost the hp to 250. any suggestions. should i keep this one or use the $ i'd use to fix it up and buy a newer one? thanks

I have an 89SE 5sp and I love the hell out of it, too. I'm working on the sounds/security system right now, then I'll be moving on to the exhaust/intake setup probably. After I get it paid off, I'll finish up with the suspension/wheels/tires.

HUD? I'd really like to see pics of that too, since I don't believe that the 89's came with that (unless it was a GXE - not sure). I've got about 160K miles on mine as well, and I'll keep it as long as I possibly can, too. You've got a lot of things that can be done, but to be realistic, you're starting at 160hp and you're talking about adding another 90hp to this engine. I don't know if or how that's possible, but you'll be able to increase it to around 190hp with a CAI & exhaust. You may be able to pass up the 200hp mark with a computer upgrade - everything else will probably require MAJOR work that you may or may not be prepared to indulge in, but it's your ride. Having had mine for about a year now, I know that it's going to take a lot of work to get you past the 2000hp mark.

good luck & peace2u

In the manual for the 89 it shows a diagram of the hud, and i think it refers to the gxe. But I have yet to see one on a max.

Hmm, last time I saw a Brougham Maxima here in Canada I'm pretty sure it had HUD because there was this oval pod protruding out of the instrument cowl/dash kinda near the A-pillar and it had a 1-2" square hole facing the windsheild. This car was loaded and had digital instruments, so what else could it be?

Pics of it WORKING would be nice indeed though!

Well actually any 3rd gen max is not the car for it.

did you just say a Boxster?????????????????? Well u must have a SUPER FAST VE or the boxsters must of been extremly slow.

190hp vs. 220hp
0-60 in mid 7's 0-60 in 6.5

But what am i talking about, u have a maxima, you can beat any car right!!!!

Check the name

I to have the HUD with the digital dash (hense the name). I love it even though my car is a little on the older side people get into my car and have to catch their eye's when they see the HUD and digi-dash. It even suprises other max owners because it is so rare. But alas my windshield has a crack in t right now (thanks to a dump truck that doesn't secure its load properly) and won't be able to get it fixed until next week when I get some time off of work. But when I get it fixed I promise I'll break out the old digi-cam and take some pics for you guys. And in my opinion I love my max because of the unique Digital Dash and HUD and love the looks on peoples faces when they see it. Ryan.

I live in the great northwest. that means we have lots of hills out here. I also live in a very rich areas where most kids dont have to worry about a job or paying for theyre car(s)/gas or insurance. anyway, My max has kicked alot of the $40,000+ cars (that these kids drive) asses. they are the same age as me and ive driven theyre cars. granted they're fast, like the boxter but the thing to remember is that uphere its hilly, i havent met a car yet that can take me on a hill, not a single one. there have been way to many people trying to "cheat" but hasent happened. the only problem that I have are other maxima's but luckly they're gracious enough to tie with me, or theyre just old and they dont want to go there. now you can go ahead and flame me, but I dont care because uphere, I am the best and not a damn person has beaten me on an incline nor any other grade of hill. actually there was only one time, it was a 300zx but that was because of my auto and a soon to be single lane road, it wasnt so much a race as just fun, but ill give him that one.
mrgone.

and yes, i have kill'd a $45000 WRX because the kid cant drive worth ****, there are only 2 other kids up here that actually know how to drive a stick, one of them is my best friend, and his stick is a 1990 Ford Superduty dumptruck, that is funny to see. gotta love that 460ci V8, poor rice, almost poor me.
sorry to waste your time and to be in the wrong forum.
I saw the HUD in the manual, i was thinking about possiably putting one in my max for fun, but I think it would cost $$$$. the digital gauges seem cool, but its much easier to read the needle. It could just be me thought. its fun to watch go up and down. mainly up though

finally getting back to my post. i have a GXE NOT SE (learned something). it's gonna take some time getting pics cause i don't have a camera or anything, but rest assured my dash is hella tight. i went to shucks and they said they couldn't lower my car cause of the adjustable suspension. has anybody ever added turbos to their car (i don't know anything about them)? i'm gonna have about 13k to spend on this car or another at the end of the summer. if i was going to sell this car for a newer max i'd definetly want to see if i could take the dash/hud and put it into the new one. hell i like my car lots. with this budget looking for ideas.
MY PLAN
definetly want new two tone (BLK&DRK BLUE)leather done
sound syste w 2 12's infinity 6x9's rear, infinity 6" in front w tweets
quality paint job
18"chrome rims
need most help on engine mods and their prices have a good idea of prices for the rest.

thanks for your help!!!

well im not going to continue, because i see where the anger is coming in. but remember one thing, theres no way your maxima is better then handling then a boxster. But keep winning against people who cant drive and a $45,000 WRX he must have some sh-t in there because a stocker on WRX is about $35,000 give or take.

LAter.....

I think he means that he raced a Boxter(which costs $45k) but calls it a "$45,000 WRX" because they have the same engine.... I guess thats what he's trying to say!

no the kid had daddy buy him the WRX and extras (turbo, intercooler, springs, etc). Personally I cannot stand the kid, I hate him. hes an ***. he also had other crap done, but it was $45,000. guys seriously, I dont think you can comprehend the money that is up here. if you want nice cars and ****, this is the place to come (to "obtain" them.).

also I friend told me that his wrx is actually setup wrong. Like almost everyone else (up here atleast) he had all of his mods installed in shops. I do not know to much about turbos mainly because I have no intrest at the time, but I guess there is a butterfly or something that opens when the pressure gets to high, inorder to protect the engine. I guess he has it set to 27 or 29lbs and his car can only handle 14 or so. again this is hear say and combined with my little knowledge of turbos, you can tell me if this sounds right. if it is, you can see what I mean by the stupidity up here, if not well then I should double check what my friend says (kinda what im doing here).

thanks

It's actually a "boxer" engine, which means that the cylinders are horizontally opposed. This makes the engine flat, as you can imagine, with all 4 pistons moving in a horizontal motion, with each pair opposing each other. Supposedly the flatter engine allows for a lower center of gravity and a lower hood line among other benefits, but I've never driven a car with such an engine, so I can't comment on how the design performs.
