I have an 89 Maxima SE... and i've lately had a major exhaust leak. My local mechanic fixed a part of it where it was leaking air and it helped but when i rev my car and let off it, it sounds like it's coughing it's way back to idle almost. I just put in an air intake and need a place for the air to go. I would love an complete aftermarket exhaust system but i can't quite afford that right now. Is the Y-pipe and the crossover pipe the same thing? I was told i had holes in my crossover pipe and it was leaking and a price quote of 400 bucks, which is stupid. If i switch to a better aftermarket y-pipe should it make it better?

sounds like they're talking about the y...i can't think of any other pipe they would consider a crossover pipe...you can get an aftermarket one from about $275 to $450...check out:
