ok i can get my hands on a 1993 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS dohc 16V 5 speed
FOR $1000!!!!!! the only reson i would think about getting it because its stick.. but i really dont wana leave my maxima..*i love this car

the Eclipse is in GREAT shape,85k.. owned by a old man.. he said it loved it but he wants to stop paying insuance because he does not drive it anymore.. i went for a drive and it felt fast! first time behind a stick shift... OOo it was fun..

what do i doooo.. does anyone know that eclipse's stats.. he said it came with 135 hp.. hard do belive so much in that little car.

man, any little import in a standard feels quick. i drove the new 2002 civic lx in a standard and it felt fast. but i guarantee that my max will smoke it. but the eclipse's are nice the shape is kinda too old for my taste. a gs isn't really to fast. u need to find a gs-t or gsx. those are some bad mother f*ckers. The after market is filled with stuff for them though. and for a 1000, that is hard to pass up.

I dont know, but the eclipse is not the best car you can get, 2 of my friends own and eclipse and they keep running into problems, oil leaks, transmission problems, overheating, rpm problems. And the GS is really slow, it might feel fast, but its really not. The only positive is you can swap the motor out of the GSX.

those things are pretty quick, my friend has a 1990 GS... if you can drop the GSX engine in there (200 hp turbo) that would be a fast car, considering it probably only weights 2600 lbs

actual i used to have 90 eagle talosn tsi all wheel drive turbo
its not htat easy because the gsx is all wheel the gs is front wheel drive my talon had about 250hp when i dynoed it they are the easyes car to make fast

ok.. some more info on the car. the engine has been swaped out. but a 93 GS 16v dohc engine w/85k was put in.. the timming belt broke on the older one and all the valves were bent. and the heads were damaged.. so he found a junked engine and put it in.. the cluch shocks/struts, brakes are all new and he has a 6 CD changer in it

for 1000 BUCKS!!.. what do i dooo!!! ***Is this car faster then my max***.. i was driving it but i didn't come close to redlining.. and i thought it had great acceleration..

Well the turbo's only run low 15's...of all the stats I've seen on the turbo's fastest time I saw in the quarter was 15.2...

The non-turbo's probably run mid 16's, which is around what VG auto's should do.

Factor into the equation that Eclipses have history's of absolutely sucking (not to mention that FUGLY interior). You could always just pick it up for a grand and have some fun with it. But I would by no means replace your Maxima with it. With the history Eclipse's have you're bound to run into more problems that it's worth down the line...

i might get the mitsu to play around with but would DEFINITELY NEVER dream about giving my max up for it. Heck No! or else buy it for a grand and sell it for higher on ebay dude! that way you make more to spend on your max for more mods.

you're joking right........The GS is garbage!!! if its faster than your Max, then why not used the $1000 to get you Max fixed! cause ain't no way a GS 5spd is faster than even a good condition VG!

why would you want the non-turbo Eclipse anyways???? talk about a step backwards!

good condiotn turbo will run a low 15/high 14 while the AWD will run a high 14! I could undertand if ti was a turbo, but man its a GS, for crying out loud!

and why would you want to pay the cost to swap in the GST/X motor??? there is a turbo kit available for the N/A 2L, it just came out last year I think, might even be the same one used for some of the Neons.

i hate auto soo much.. its the reson y my car is soo slow..
i have been thinking about this non-stop now, i mean i realy like my maxima.. but its just not fast at all. i think the eclipse "could" be faster.. with a few little mods..

they really brake down alot?..

lol that sucks a**! j/k but there are a couple of people on the forum with mean auto maxs. talk to them and find out what exactly they did to theirs. what have you done to yours so far? I assure you you will definitely be missing a crapload by giving up your max. Buy the eclipse if you must and sell it for a higher price as i said earlier and use the proceeds towards development of your max.

Yea, It pushes 135 hp. At least it's a 16 valve, otherwise you'd be stuck w/ 92hp!!!


I'd go for a GSX though.

keep making us laugh...the N/A 2.0 in that car isnothing special, no torque, no highend...plus Mitsu doesn't have the best reputation, but if you want to get it go ahead...I hang out with a few DSM guys(NA and turbo) around my way, and trust me, from 1st hand experience you're taking a major step back in both performance and reliability if you buy that GS! it struggles with mods just as bad as your VG so there is no point in taking a step down for the same if not less performance!
